Oct 13, 2012 2:24 AM in response to g.asmby orhan_m,Bad news. Even on Lion there are many lags, especially using mission control. I have in fullscreen mode:
Safari
Ical
Mail
and just some pics.
Very laggy unfortunatelly:(
Seems that Apple haven't done its homeworks!

Oct 15, 2012 3:50 AM in response to orhan_mby orhan_m,Hey guys,
few days ago I was in two Apple Retail Stores and just wanted to test the Macbook Pro Retina whether it is also lagging. I've tested two MBPr and both were without any lag. I've opened many screens and applications and no lag was recognizable.
So it is not normal that there are lags. I can just advice to return your MBPr and charge for a new working one.

Oct 15, 2012 7:54 AM in response to orhan_mby togaen,The lag problem is worst when the integrated graphics chip is being used. If some application were open that caused the laptops to be using discrete graphics, then you might not have seen the lag in certain UI animations.

Oct 15, 2012 7:48 AM in response to orhan_mby Rdotyung,I'm sorry but I do not believe you. Just because you personally saw no lag does not mean it isn't there, it just means you don't see it.
Every MBPr in the Grand Central NYC Apple Store had the UI lag described in this thread just last week. Some UI animatones have gotten better with updates, but there is still Lag.
I'm not trying to be condescending, but it's frustrating when someone who doesn't own this computer dilutes the content of this thread by telling everyone that macbooks in the apple store don't have lag when they most definiltey do.
All you have to do is open iCal and perform the month change animation to see slow down. Sure that's a useless animation, but it still reflects the problem. 10.8.2 + all the other updates have helped, but there is still no official word adressing the issue and that's the point of this thread.

I have been to the Mac store in Boston, and they all exhibited lag as well. I told them about it and they told me they were'nt aware of it. Maybe the employees were recently instructed to set them all to use the nVidia main GPU 100% of the time until a true fix is released? Just speculation of a possibility.
When I use the arrows in the upper right side in iCal i don't get an animation, it just changes... Are you guys seeing something else? How would I "Enable" the animation?

Oct 15, 2012 8:19 AM in response to Rdotyungby orhan_m,Sorry for being not precise enough for you. As far as I could saw the macbook in the apple store was more smooth than my own macbook. You should consider the fact that I was testing it just 5 minutes. So everything I report is just a personal experience which I want to share with you. Sure, compared to the non retina versions its still lagging. I'm also frustated because my rMBP is very lagging and there is no statement and complete improvement by apple.
-
Oct 15, 2012 8:33 AM in response to Rdotyungby orhan_m,So what do you guess? It's just a software issue or do you think the hardware isn't capable to fulfill the retina requirement? I had almost the same experience as Kevin808 mentioned. Whenever I called apple care the employees told me they aren't aware of such a lag. But a supervisor agreed the lag because a couple of users sent videos which verifies the problems the retina have.
So we can just hope apple takes care about his customers and do provide a solution for us.

Oct 15, 2012 1:37 PM in response to orhan_mby Rdotyung,I would HOPE that it's an issue that can be fully resolved with a driver update. Otherwise everyone who bought a first gen MBPr got screwed.
My opinion on the subject is skewed. I've habituated to the fact that my machine runs with UI Lag when performing simple tasks like Desktop switching which my 2008 MBP can handle with zero glitches. At this point I don't think Apple will ever release a statement or own up to the fact that our machines have these issues.

Oct 15, 2012 4:46 PM in response to dscielby Tigerwong, has anyone tried to do a clean disk format and fresh install after the format?
saw a few post saying that this works the trick.
-
Oct 15, 2012 5:17 PM in response to Tigerwongby Lex1179,I did a disk format and fresh install. It didn't work. I have the same issues I had, sometimes I have also some freeze that are making me mad.

Oct 16, 2012 2:44 AM in response to Lex1179by poidet, everyone who has problem with UI, and you don't know why it is so ???
Go here http://www.madrau.com/download/latest/latest.html download it, and change resolution for your favourite
with and without HDPI for integrated and descret graphic card, and you will see that with non HDPI resolution your mac is really fast atleast now i see how iCal.app has to switch month by gesture smoothly and really fast..Unfortunately with normal dpi resolution picture looks terrible but atleast you can check by your self, it does not require even restart. 5 minutes and you will see...
