Nov 28, 2012 8:06 PM in response to Wozz666by J Critchley,I havn't run my rMBP with an external monitor for a while now. Finally needed to to do some work with dual screen set up and after about an hour of just a few browser windows, skype, word open and a few things downloading the keyboard started to get toasty like never before. I felt the strip between the keyboard and just under the screen and almost too hot to touch!
I've had it get high when playing some games... but not this hot where typing is uncomfortable in the main section. Always something new with this machine.

Nov 30, 2012 9:50 AM in response to dscielby JosArch,i don't know if it helps, but yesterday i installed the new itunes 11 and now all the heavy lag is gone, it's not as i would like it to be, but it's never been this smooth, UI no longer freezes especially while on top sites and scrolling betwen spaces, my theory, is that with this itunes update, something in the drivers was modified.

Nov 30, 2012 11:56 AM in response to JosArchby vitor_mfc,I don´t know if is temporary or not, but after i installed the itunes 11, i too have experienced a really almost perfecly smooth experience on UI, dont know if its gonna last, but for know i may believe that itunes 11 had a video codec improvement or something like that in the middle. Lets wait and see, but i would recommend that update for those who were having lag issues with the ui, and then post some feedback if you please.

Dec 1, 2012 3:22 AM in response to vitor_mfcby Link_,does anybody else noticed an improvement, after updating iTunes?
-
Dec 1, 2012 4:37 AM in response to vitor_mfcby jcbigears,I use my retina display 15 inch MacBook often with dual displays, and sometimes with a program called Osirix, and both of these situations cause the discrete graphics card to take over. Once that occurs, scrolling between mission control panes shudders, and whenever the dock magnifies and minimises it too shudders. This only started after the Firmware update. The update installed error free.
iTunes made no difference.
Come on Apple - pull your finger out and let's get this fixed!

Dec 1, 2012 2:35 PM in response to dscielby ldjalal,Hi guys, have sort of a discovery (at least for me) which might put things into perspective.
After sending back my retina display, I went back to my MB Air which was running on Lion. I decided to install a fresh copy of Mountain Lion, and to my surprise my MB Air, which used to work flawlessly started to have UI lag and choppy graphics IDENTICAL to my rMBP!
Opening various windows in safari, launching mission control and using the mail app and navigating in mac osx became extremely choppy.
To make sure that I am not mistaken, I launched my 2008 MBP which works without ANY lag what so ever. This means that this is clearly a software problem and not a hardware issue with the rMBP.

Dec 2, 2012 1:40 AM in response to CTby ldjalal,I can confirm. I have reinstalled OS X Lion on my Air and the system runs 10x smoother, just like it did before.
So once again, this is a software issue with Mountain Lion.
It would be very helpful if anyone can try to install Lion on their rMBP.

Dec 2, 2012 2:33 AM in response to dscielby ptit_filou,Guys, I've noticed something on my rMBP : more the nvidia card is hot (according to iStat Menu, the GPU Diode) - no matter if the FANs are working or not - more the device lags.
Somebody... ?
-
Dec 2, 2012 2:36 AM in response to ptit_filouby jcbigears,Hi.
I agree. The GPU diode always runs hot when it's in use, but yes, the hotter it is, the more it lags.

Dec 2, 2012 5:54 AM in response to ptit_filouby Link_,never had those problems with my 13" rMBP, actually the 13" has no nvidia card, but i didn't notice any difference in the UI lag, in terms of heat.
What do you think, should I try to get a new one? or should I order a 13" MBA 8GB RAM instead? I would definitly miss the Retina...
