Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

So far I've been a happy camper with my Apple products since 2007. I bought the 15" rMBP a few weeks ago to replace my 27" iMac to be more mobile.

I'm kinda shocked to read that this thread has been going on since July and that the problem is not solved yet. Apple support blamed a third party software and when I follow up to explain the same experience like cybeross have, there's no reply at all.

I wonder if ALL 15" rMBP experince this? Mine is a mid-2012. What about yours?

Last night was the first time I used my 13inch rMBP (i7) for serious work (a lot of tabs open, fast switching between multpile apps and mail, etc...). Honestly, Apple, the performance of this computer is such a fail, the UI lag is just everywhere. I'm deeply disappointed and I think I'm gonna sell my machine. It is the best looking computer I ever owned, but it feels like sitting in a Ferrari powered by a Prius engine. The problem that I have is, the computer has been sold to me based on Ferrari specs with a Ferrari price tag - feels a bit like a rip-off. This is the first time in years I'm honestly considering to move to another manufacturer.

Did anybody of you guys give this update a (second) try?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609

Just to remind: this is an update that Apple has withdrawn a few days after release (I personally had do restore my machine from backup image because OS got so crappy) but it actually HAD improved graphic performance.

Now the update is back - did you test it? I am still waiting but very tempted to check if it anyhow solves Retina problems.

Does not make any difference on my system (on which the first one was already installed, if I recall correctly).

I've contacted them again on the phone, right before Christmas. It then was 10 days since I sent them an email. I guess it has something to do with the holidays, but It would be nice to know if they're working on it or not.

I will keep bugging them till it's solved, but I'm sure it helps if everyone else here do the same!

This is 100% a software issue.

If you download 'WebKit' you will see that ALL lag in Safari goes. (Google search 'WebKit Nightly Builds')

As WebKit is the open source platform that the likes of Safari, Google Chrome, Apple Mail and other apps are built on, this is why people are experiencing issues with Mail and other apps too.

The likelyhood is that there will be a Safari 6.1 release soon which will be the most recent stable version of WebKit, which will address all browser scrolling/instability issues.

This is NOT hardware related. It's just because the retina screen's are ahead of their time and software needs to catchup.

    Hope this helps some people.

Talked to a Apple rep at a local Apple store in OC - told him about the frustration I am having with my 2 retina MBPs, surprisingly he acknowledged that the rMBP isn't performing as well as it should and told me that a softwarre update should come out some time this month to address those issues.. according to him its been in the works for a while. I was surprised the rep was so forthcoming about the info, theyre usually pretty discrete but I guess we will see when it comes out and what will actually be addressed..
