Mar 25, 2013 6:33 AM in response to ammiraglioby ESiq,Mine is solved (switching desktops) or improved. Scrolling is a lot better, and mission control is never that super slow it used to be.

Mar 25, 2013 6:36 AM in response to ammiraglioby roberto_sc,really? you tried google hangout + facebook + gmail??
-
Mar 25, 2013 6:42 AM in response to roberto_scby roberto_sc,it seems that the hangout must be in the same safari window of facebook or google to be lagged (at google you have 2 links to start a hangout, one starts in another tab, the other starts in another window).

Mar 25, 2013 7:55 AM in response to dscielby elmath,I've installed Flash and Google Hangout to perform more tests and everything is flawless. I had Hangout + Gmail + this web page in Chrome, Facebook + a 1080p Flash video on Youtube in Safari. I ran the tests with the NVIDIA GPU at first and then with the HD4000 after closing Hangout. Smooth UI with both.
My machine is a MBPR 15", 16Go, 512Go, Samsung screen.
It's definetly not a cache issue has suggested before. The difference before/after the fix is obvious, from barely usable to good performances. The fix persit after a reboot.
To download the app, you can probably create a dev account for free even if you have never wrote a single line of code (you don't need the iOS dev account)
Sorry for those of who the problem persit. I'm glad it's fixed it for the others.

Mar 25, 2013 8:04 AM in response to elmathby roberto_sc,Hi elmath, thank you very much for testing with Google Hangout. "Unfortunately" Hangout works well on Chrome, I had problem with Hangout + Gmail + Facebook in the same window in Safari (it also seems to work well if I open Hangout in a separeted window in Safari).
My machine is a MBPR 15", 8Go, 256Go, don't know how to find out which screem.

Mar 25, 2013 8:24 AM in response to roberto_scby elmath,I've tested with Hangout and Facebook in two different tabs of the same window in Safari. You are right, I can notice scrolling lags in Facebook, but the problem doesn't spread out of the window. If I turn off the camera in Hangout the scroll is back to normal on other tabs.
To know the brand of your screen type the following command in the terminal:
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
If the second line start with LSN it's a Samsung
If yours is a LG you better have look to the image persistance issue before the warranty expire.

I bought it in Japan and live in Brazil - there's no Apple Store in Brazil - so I think there's nothing I can do

Mar 25, 2013 8:58 AM in response to elmathby raif_,I tried the same thing as you with Quartz Debug.
I did not notice any differnce:(
Could you please try following:
Start iCal and select the month view, swipe with two fingers to the left or to the right!
That animation should be butter smooth as it is in native resolution.
If that does not lag...than your really found a solution;)
And why does it matter which screen i have...LG or SAMSUNG?
-
Mar 25, 2013 9:24 AM in response to raif_by Wayne Chin,I am running Quartz Debug. I am in iCal and the swiping is definitely choppy on my machine.
On the other hand, as I mentioned earlier, I downloaded a whole bunch of older apps that were compiled with Universal Binaries, meaning that they can be run on both Power PC and Intel, and they run flawlessly. Butter smooth scrolling, no lag whatsoever.

Mar 25, 2013 9:32 AM in response to raif_by ldjalal,Just to clarify, not ALL LG monitors are faulty. I am on my third retina MBP (updated 2.8Ghz model), which has an LG screen and it is working perfectly fine. My previous model also had an LG screen but had serious ghosting issues.
It all comes down to the actual week the mbp was produced. You can find a list which will indicate if you have a faulty screen.
As a side note, the updated version of the retina MBP does seem to work better than the previous models I had.

Mar 25, 2013 11:37 AM in response to ldjalalby ESiq,I have to conclude my UI is overall a lot smoother after this simple and obscure thing. It isn't perfect, but it is way better than it was.

Mar 25, 2013 12:20 PM in response to dscielby adamstark,Tried Quartz Debug and couldn't see a difference on my machine
For those who got their performance improved:
• Is iCal two-finger-swipe smooth?
• Mail scrolling?
• Screen recording?
• Pressing cmd-shift-4, does the cursor still lag?
• iTunes?
I'm on a 2012 model bought in november. Seems I have the LG screen with the mysterious burns.
