Mar 30, 2013 1:16 PM in response to dscielby Wayne Chin,As mentioned before, and I am currently working with Apple engineers with this matter, applications written with universal binaries have a faster refresh rate than native 64-bit apps. Here is my video demonstrating this.

Mar 31, 2013 1:08 AM in response to dscielby clausbo,Try make the same Safari test where there are more images in the Safari window (like in the youtube page). I get as low at 10 fps if I do the window resize...

Mar 31, 2013 9:18 AM in response to dscielby DonQuijote12321,So in preferences I ticked off the "group windows by application" option and all lag whatsoever from mission control has gone for me.
I tried running a FHD 1080p video on VLC while keeping this window open in Safari and Pages and the App Store and a finder window running in the background and then I swiped up and boom. No stutering at all.
Then I turned on the Battlefield 4 trailer on youtube and kept everything the same as before and I noticed some lag. Then I kept only the BF4 trailer on and minimized everything else and still the same lag.
I am assuming flash videos have something to do with the stutter? Also, scrolling up and down in the App Store lags like **** for me. Is this normal?

Mar 31, 2013 9:26 AM in response to DonQuijote12321by ESiq,The App Store makes me want to carve my eyes out, yes. And Mail.app is also fairly horrible.

Apr 7, 2013 8:29 AM in response to DonQuijote12321by cybeross,I'd like to share that Quartz Debug does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever -- Mission Control lags horribly, it can take even a whole second or two before it starts to move with several windows open, or pro apps running (like Logic Pro 9). Scrolling in both Mail and Safari is terrible, and deselecting "group windows" in Mission Control does not help. I am almost used to this experience now, until I pick up an iPad, and am absolutely baffled how a tiny iPad can perform SO much smoother than my top of the line computer. Just thought I'd share that none of the suggested solutions have worked at all so far...

Apr 7, 2013 9:49 AM in response to dscielby ESiq,It is horrible for me too now that I've starting really using the computer again. Did a lot of reboots around the time of the patch. Now it routinely can take up to 1 second for mission control to activate, and I will only get about two frames for the whole animation. Facebook is unusable in Safari, and Mail is horrible.

Apr 7, 2013 9:43 PM in response to ESiqby Geneous,I have the same experience as you. Also, the performance is much much worse with discrete than it is with the integrated. My thought on that is that the integrated was much optimized as it served the dual purpose of being optimized for the 13 inch retina (which only has integrated intel video) and for the 15 retina.
i got so fed up with it that i just purchased a 15 inch classic macbook pro antiglare on ebay and am eagerly awaiting my replacement machine. yes, its heavier. yes, the display quality will be worse and lower resolution. and yes, it wont have two thunderbolt ports and an hdmi port. however, perhaps i will be able to use it without the stuttering and visual delays bugging the crap out of me.

Apr 13, 2013 1:38 AM in response to dscielby Wayne Chin,Another rant here....I just picked up a used MacBook Pro 13" A1278, 2011 model, with 8GB of ram, 2.3Ghz i5 dual core really cheap off Craigslist. Playing with it side-by-side with my MacBook Pro Retina, I can truly say apps scroll better on the 13", iPhoto, Mail, Safari, Mission Control, all the iApps scream on the 13" MBP...no lego blocks, no jittered lagging scrolls. Only Photoshop and GPU intensive apps like Warcraft and League of Legends run better on the Retina, but the arguement is still the same. I paid $3000 to expect blazing fast performance. It's been 6 months of rage....when will this problem be fixed??

Apr 13, 2013 9:14 AM in response to Wayne Chinby cbs20,I have that same computer and am disgusted at how much smoother the UI is on my early 2011 13 inch compared to the 15inch retina.

Apr 14, 2013 10:37 AM in response to dscielby clausbo,Expirence one thing today. Sometimes I need to check my web work on an IE browser, so I'm using VirtualBox for a Win7 window. When I run the Win7 on the retina display I have a very anoing mouse delay - actually it's sometimes very hard to "hit" the right buttons in Win7 due to the 2-3 sec. of mouse delay (sometines even more).
Well today I added an external display, and moved the Win7 window to that screen - and guess what - it now runs as it's supposed to do.
Then I set the retina display to the native resolution (2880x1800 using the SwitchResX utility) and had the Win7 window on it. And then it was running perfect - the same way as on the external display (however so small that it was hard to read :-))
I also expirence a better scrolling expirence on the external Display that on the retina display.
