Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

So CT, do you have a 15inch retina that shows no lag? Do you experience any lag in the UI (switching desktops and full screen apps, or entering mission control)?

I didin't do the clean install, my 15 RMBP already can with 10.8.1, but i'm waiting a little bit longer, but this machine is going to be sent to apple for fixing, besides the problems with lagging, that's extremly annoying

the screen has lots os horizontal stripes that are really visible in bright colors

and on top of that my speakers do a a little Pop ou buzz sound when i empty trash or browse through folders with videos and do some sound distort while playing music in itunes.

Apple what are you going to do to solve this problem? I want a real 2500€ machine.

So that's it? No new posts? There's absolutely no resolve to this ongoing issue? My only solution to date is to use non-HiDPI screen resolutions. Yes I know it defeats the purpose of owning a Retina display, but at least all noticable lag is gone. I'm using 1680 x 1050 non-HiDPI and all lag issues and lego blocks are gone. Those of you who are just tuning in, download a copy of RDM (Retina Display Menu) from phoenix-dev.com and you'll find renewed life on your screen.

I'm still here with you Wayne hoping one of the other ppl that stated they were working with Apple on this issue can post an update, or even just some random person has found a way to resolve or alleviate this issue. I'm waiting for 10.8.4 to do ANOTHER clean install and if that doesn't resolve the issue, I guess I'm headed to the Genius Bar (even though I think ppl in this community know more about Macs then most of the so called geniuses), maybe with the amount of phone calls and genius bar visits they will issue a replacement (who am I kidding they will just replace something else on it and not resolve the issue).

I don't think this is on the "high priority" list atm... They are working hard to get iOS 7 and OSX 10.9 ready for WWDC. But they have "graphic drivers" as one of the focus areas in the 10.8.4 betas.

I did a clean reinstall one week ago where I erased everything on my hard drive. At first I thought the GUI lag dissappeared since I noticed no GUI lag on the desktop transition (swtiching between desktop) despite having lots of apps and stuffs on it. But later, to my great dissappointment, the GUI lag came back and I have the same GUI lag before the clean reinstall.

But something that I noticed was, on the task control there was a process or task called "WindowServer" and everytime I restarted this process, the GUI lag dissappeared completely because I had to relog. But now after the reinstall, this "WindowServer" is gone completely.

I truly want to believe that it is supposed to lag a bit during desktop transition when you've lots of stuffs and apps on but when I think about the tech specs and the price, I just can't take it. This is just frustrating ..

The WindowServer is the process that creates what you are viewing. The window manager basically. TheWaveable, so in your discussions with the engineers do they seem to believe the issue is in the graphic drivers or could it be an issue within the WindowServer process?

Now, I have my 15" retina for almost 5 months now and had very to none lag (except loading a huge amount of data on safari, i.e. facebook), other than that, since the last update, most of the backbuffer issues are gone, but lag? almost none existant.

the first things I did when I got my retina machine (and till this day i never formatted it) was to completely disable the memory hungry Dashboard, and change the sleep time from hour to 24 hours.

    free lang sicne!

Are you using the machine with automatic graphics switching on or off?

I'm talking about the built in setting. Go to System Preferences>Energy Saver there will be a check box at the top. Is there a check or no check?

    The issue is driver related.

With the developer's account, I've downloaded a copy of 10.8.4 beta12E36 and have installed it. There's doesn't seem to be any significant improvement over UI lag using HiDPI resolutions. Running Quartz Debug, I found no difference in framerate between non-HiDPI and HiDPI resolutions, scrolling rapidly in Safari yielded 45 fps.
