You can get an application called Print in the Apps store that, I believe, will load to both your iPad and an iPhone if you have one (one purchase). This app has instructions for how to print with 3G/4G, as well as how to to do mobile printing with no network available under the Help button in the app.

I have used this app as well as a companion app from the same company called Print n Share, and have been very happy with the app and it's performance. The company also seems to have excellent customer support.

You may have to get a cheap router and set up a wireless network in your truck.

Take a look here for some ideas.

If you have a pad, and an AirPrint enabled protable printer, you are essentially all set. You can generate a wifi network using your phone's hot spot, or the hotspot on the pad. The trick is finding a portable printer that uses AirPrint.

The app I recommended is for an iPad - no laptop required. If you have 3G/4G, then as described in my first post above, there is help for setting up your iPad to print to your printer via the 3G/4G connection. Also, there is help for printing from your iPad (via an iPhone) to your printer if you have no network connection on your iPad at all.

My post specifically addresses what you were asking for. You only need your iPad, the app, and a 3G/4G connection to print to your printer.

Get the app, look at the interactive Help on the app. It will give you step by step instructions for setting up your iPad to use the app to print to your printer.
