safari rendering issues

Agree - I still have it on 10.8.2 on a new MB Pro Retina 15". Safari 6.0.1 - 8536.26.14

I have updated this morning, and I am still seeing the same issues with Safari 6.0.1 😟

I am also still seeing these glitches in 10.8.2. It seems that they only occur when the integrated graphics card is active. If I use gfxCardStatus to force discrete graphics the problem does not occur.

Every few years Apple seems to take a few steps backwards and releases some real garbage. Safari WAS a great browser for the way I worked but as of today I simply can not use this browser anylonger. Removing RSS and most of the page inspector features was bad enough but now Safari has stop displaying 90% of images on most webpages for me. Take this page for example, Safari isn't displaying any avatars or even Shawn McCuan's screen captures. They display perfectly with Firefox and Chrome but not Safari. I just get blank white boxes where the graphics should go.

I tried restarting my computer hoping it was just a glitch and a fresh restart would help, instead I got several kernal panics before the computer would boot up and Safari still has the same issues. I'm sorry but at this point I'm just fed up with this browser. There is now absolutly no advantage to using Safari (RSS and page inspector) and I'd say at this point it's a real disadvantage to using this browser.

Dakoda, I hate to agree but it's looking more that way. Seems Apple is going all in with the consumer simple design (not necessarily a bad thing) but doesn't help us people using Safari for development. As stated by john+apple, if forcing discrete graphics fixed the rendering, that's ok with me but I still rely on firefox/firebug for website development because Safari's inspector is inefficient to say the least. For what it's worth I don't particularly care much for webkit's inspector either.

For me, using gfx to lock it into discrete graphics does fix the issue, but then of course battery life on the Retina MBP goes way down.

I need to confirm, but it seems to me that just running Chrome at all forces my system into discrete graphics mode - maybe they know something about webkit ... 🙂

I can't test it right now but I don't believe Chrome does that anymore. Definitely used to though.

LandonAB, I know what you mean. I don't enjoy feeling this way but I have to be able to do my work. I love my iPhone but I love my job a whole lot more. Dumbing down the Mac line and OS in favor of the iOS may be OK for all of the new Apple users but for those of us that have built our careers around the Mac line are getting left in the cold.

I just wish I knew what was going on with my machine today. Now even Chrome is starting to block images. I tried attaching a screenshot but I have no idea if it's attached to this message because it's not displaying. Am I the only one with this issue today?

I went home at lunch and my home computer running 10.8.1 is running and displaying images correctly.

Yes, your images are attached. Right now, I am at work and on a Windows box, MBP is at home.

I am seeing a similar issue with Safari and corruption of the visual elements on certain pages. I have a macbook retina 2.3/16gb. Does not do it in chrome.

For me it happens when the processor is in Discrete Mode. If it is running in integrated it seems to be ok.

An easy site for me to test is the Amazon EC2 portal. Aws.amazon.com -- requries login. But if you have an account, go to the EC2 section, then click instances. You'll get a nice looking console in the web browser most of the time. If you resize the browser , the console tries to adjust to new size and most of the will corrupt the browser visually.

Again if its running in integdrated mode it seems to do better.

Thanks Landon. Had to restore my entire system back to 10.8.1. Everything is back to working normal. Still dissapointed with Safari but at least all of the images are displaying correctly. Hope no one else has this kind of problem!!!!

I have same config and also have these problems with safari. Have had to use Firefox which runs like a charm.

Must be embarrassing for Apple though!

I had some issues with elements with -webkit-transform css styles not rendering. A slight re-size of the safari window forces a re-render, and everything suddenly appears correctly.

I have the same issue here. The problem doesn't seems to appear when I first boot my Macbook Pro Retina but after 1-2 hours of usage.

The problem is that I have artifact on the screen, mostly on website that use javascript (gmail, facebook, my bank, etc).

This is really annoying and I must use another browser in the meantime. The problem was not solved by updating to 10.8.2...

I've got the same issue with both graphics cards (I think; definitely discreet, can't test integrated right now, but I'm pretty sure it's broken too). I've got a late 2011 MBP, 15", 2.2Ghz, high res.
