How to add favicons to Safari's bookmark bar?
I am new to mac, but is there a way add favicons to Safari's bookmark bar like chrome does?
It is taxing to have to read through bookmarks instead of an image/favicon.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

This worked for me: running Yosemite on retina MBP. Thanks!

So it's 4 1/2 years after the OP and STILL no favicons in tabs. I am greedy. I have favicons on my favorites bar AND in tabs on Chrome. I really want to use Safari more, but the lack of favicons, especially when I have a dozen tabs open, makes it a no-go for me.
C'mon, Apple, when are you going to add this basic functionality to Safari? It's too frustrating.
this would be great solution EXCEPT your favicon extension can view and send sensitive info from any open web page rendering this extension very unsafe for users! Why does it do that? I'd love to use it if I could trust it.
At present there is no way to add favicons to Safari's bookmarks bar.
thats lame-- are you sure?
Hi Adam,
Yesterday I began attempting to wean myself from Firefox because of its resource hoggy nature, jerky video playback, and some other problems I was having with it on my MacBook Pro. I stumbled on your question in trying to answer my own. In migrating to Safari, I had the same concern as you regarding favicons. My eyes like them much better than just text for quickly locating the tab I want!
After some searching, I found the Safari extension Glims. It has a number of features, some of which you might not like or need. During the installation process, you'll be given an option to choose a "lite" version if you like. Favicons are included in the lite version, if you prefer to skip all the other bells and whistles. I've installed the full version and am playing with it. So far, I'm liking it. I wonder if you might like it, too.
This is a free-to-download, Creative Commons licensed project. Pretty cool. Find it here: http://www.machangout.com/

I checked Apple support site before I posted that answer.
I could not find a howto for adding a website icon to the Bookmarks Bar itself.
If you add a folder to the Bookmarks Bar, you can place bookmarks in it.
Those bookmarks will have site specific favicons, if you visit those sites often.
There are some folders added to the Bookmarks by default like Popular,News, etc.
I was aware that there are third party apps that will add favicons to the Bookmarks Bar.
I do not use any of them. They may not cause any trouble. But I am not sure.
Best.
Glims will add Favicons to Tabs not the Bookmarks Bar. I know of now way to do what the OP desires.
Helpful app/addon, but like hpr3 said, it only adds Favicons to Tabs it appears. But thank you for finding it to try and resolve the issue.
Gah! Thanks. Apparently, I was so bent on my mission, I misread what you wanted. My apologies.
I just rename the bookmarks I use most often to something short, preferably one letter. So the bar displays "f" instead of "facebook", "WA" instead of "Wolfram Alpha" etc. Really cleans up the clutter and makes things easy to find. I kinda like the fact that the bar is all text and not a row of colorful, distracting icons.
I just switched from Chrome and also would like the Favicons. Much easier than text!
It is pretty much the sole reason I DO NOT want to change to safri, which does have many features I love. This cannot be that difficult to achieve and I do not understand why Apple has not offered this feature long ago! Is thre no one with the knowledge to code something?
HELP
+1...
Recently switched to Mac and am having trouble understanding this one... quite like Safari otherwise but I´m using FF Nightly to be able to run it on a Retina display, with all my favicons on the toolbar...
Come on Apple this is surely a very easy fix...
