If you have issue with Chrome then you might have an other issue that the other had...

Did you tried the standart troubleshooting ? A new user account, safe boot ?

I am facing the same problem and tried various proposed fixes - lost a lot of time but nothing seems to work. I am now using firefox and hesitate installing Mountain Lion on my other machine (sorry Apple guys). Actually I expected better

Hi Carolyn, Apple has removed all Safari upgrades for Snow Leopard, ie "5.1.7", they've just removed them period, unprecedented.  The latest issue of safari now for SL is 5.0.5 which comes in the 10.6.8 upgrade.  The Flashback security tool for SL has also been removed, but it's still available for Leopard and Lion?

This is most coercive thing I think Apple has ever done.

I too was shocked by this and can only hazard a guess.

Safari 6.0 patched a TON of security vulnerabilities so I think they are trying to push as many users as they can to it, but that leaves SL users who never got around to 5.1.7 SOL.

I don't even have a guess about the FlashBack removal tool.

    @Carolyn Samit

It's an open forum, so feel free to share.

This link is, i believe, the most original link you'll find.

I do not think Apple offer for the moment standalone Safari 6 download for Lion.

You need normally to go through software update to update to Safari 6

Hi same here, running Snow Leopard and had to reinstall everything. Can not find any Safari 5.1.2 or 5.1.5 or 5.1.7.... Nothing at all.  Totally confused with what is going on? Not sure you can install Safari 6 and if it is compatible with Snow Leopard anyway.

Has anybody found a solution into what to download and "where" to find it? Thank you.

Reinstalling 1.6.8 v1 combo took back the machine with an old 5.0.5 version of Safari.

    Hi.

All of this discussion depicts my problem exactly and the mentione download is probably what I need to fix my problem.  However, I cant download the link as I cant use safari and as it was the only brouser I had installed, how can I download this link without being able to open safari.

I know this may be a really silly question, but I am a bit of a computer novice!

    Cheers in advance.

I tested this out and it worked for me.

Open the Terminal app (found in /Applications/Utilties/).

Copy the following as one line (from "curl" through ".pkg") and paste it into the Terminal window after the "$ " prompt:

         curl -O http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/37/23/041-5058/lr5tynbldi18zcrqo8a8uq88 rnjushqliu/Safari6Lion.pkg

    then hit return.

You should see it count down the time. When it stops, look in your home folder (the one with the little house and your user name) for "Safari6Lion.pkg". Double-click to launch the installer.

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I'm still stuck.  after I did the cut and paste and return, a bunch of text appeared saying that "You dont have permission to access ?Safari6Lion.pkg on this server.<p>"

When I hit return the terminal window shows the following:

I can only guess that you are in a different part of the world and you need to use another mirror that will grant you access. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing what that might be.

The only thing I can suggest is that you find somebody willing to download it from the Safari page for you from their machine onto a USB drive. They would need to be running Lion at the time to get the right version. Or ask an Apple Store Genius to snag it for you.
