Q: Mountain Lion won't wake from sleep

So... an interesting thing happened the other day. Apple called me at home to collect information on the issue. So it seems they are aware of the issue, and trying to address it, but considering that 10.8.4 just came out the other day, and they are still trying to resolve it, it would suspect this may be ongoing for some time.

I gotta say, I'm impressed by their due dillegence.

If I ever get to a point where I have the time and can risk doing a fresh install by manually transferring my files and re-installing everything; that seems to be the only way to permanently resolve the issue.

Despite the fact that I am impresed Apple is contacting their customers over this, I doubt that I will ever purchase an OS X upgrade ever again on a new Apple computer. The new features are not worth the hassle. Apple should be concerned over this. I consider myself an early adopter, willing to risk buggy upgrades for new shiny features, but I can safely say that it has been more of a pain than gain.

The only workaround that worked for me was installing the app "SmartSleep" from the developers website (not the App Store version).

New iMac 27", fullly loaded latest model. Did a full clean reinstall with Mountain Lion 10.8.4.  FAIL

I am using a USB keyboard and USB mouse. Neither will wake the computer after an overnight sleep. The only way is with a tap of the power button.

It's also slow to wake up from a general short lived screen saver type sleep during the day. If I go away for an hour, first the screen wakes, then I wait for the mouse to appear, then wait for it to allow me to type in my password, then wait for it to respond to any mouse clicks in firefox, etc. FAIL

Not pleased.

Oh, also, this is Apple RAM, so that is not the issue. I have nothing but the operating system and firefox installed, so it's not an issue with sw conflicts.

I have read that some of the USB connections can cause issues, but dont really know how to test that.

Next test will be to see if the wireless mouse and keyboard act the same way. Strange this is, I have 10.8.4 installed on my 2008 24" imac, but it doesnt have this problem using this particular keyboard and mouse.

It shouldn't be related to your keyboard and mouse. I have this problem since I updated my mid 2012 macbook air from Mac OS X Lion to Mountain Lion! Now I'm on 10.8.4 and still have this issue. Really missed that fast waking up of old days on my air with Lion.

That's frustrating that we are about to get Mavericks and we still have this issue floating around on ML.

The problem with my Mac Pro (5,1) not waking up from deep sleep went away with the 10.8.3 update.  However, I just updated to 10.8.4 and the problem is back! I thought I'd mention it in case someone had the problem fixed when they updated to 10.8.3 and is considering updating to 10.8.4. It would be great to have this problem fixed permenately so I can get back to work.

For those following this thread, I thought I'd update my situation. I ended up bringing my Mac Pro into the Apple Store for an evaluation. They were not able to recreate the problem, since it was happening interminably. They ran full diagnotics on the hardware and software and both checked out fine. I brought it home and it kept happening.

So I brought it a second time and again it check out fine, but when I got it home it would still not wake from sleep.

The THIRD time I brought it in, I asked them to replace the power supply, even though it appeared to be okay when the hardware diagnostic was completed. Since it was covered under AppleCare they agreed to replace it even though they could not recreate the problem.

This fixed it. I've been working for the past few weeks with no issues.

I don't know if it's related, but I did see this error in the console each of the three times that it failed to wake from sleep:

So while I thought it was a software issue, it turns out it was a hardware issue for me. I hope this helps anyone else trying to troubleshoot this problem on their machine.

So I had this problem almost immediately on a refurbished 13" retina pro (feb 13 release) I bought at the end of Sep.  After two calls without fixing I took to the store.  Even though the issue presented again on dropping off, they were unable to replicate again and ran two days work of diagnostics finding nothing wrong.  When picking up, I pressed on the the next step.  They stated that this was a new firmware issue that was starting to appear on my mackbook release. They replace my computer, and the issue remains.  Thought it was after being asleep for a long time, but it would not wake up after just an hour or so tonight.  I don't know what to do next.  Wait for the fix to be pushed to all? Running 10.9.

have exactly the same problem with my MacBook Pro 15" 2012 from refurb and the same log (system.log) :

Sleep failure code 0x00000000 0x1f006900

Wake up has never worked. Does it mean that the power card has a problem too ?

Thanks but didn't work, still stuck with the same error. Moreover, what I want is functional hibernate mode, not a strap to avoid using it ...

So, is there a way you found solution.

Yesterday I contacted customer support for this same issue where my machine is rebooting by itself when in sleep mode.

Hi, I change two parameters :

- put autopoweroffdelay to 28800

- change hibernatemode from 5 to 3 on battery mode

I goes only once in deep sleep, and I recovered my session instead of having to shut it down by force.

Hope it it will continue like this, else I will report in this thread.
