Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Dear community,

after having installed OSX Mountain Lion my sound startet stuttering whenever there is rapid movement on my screen.

This includes e.g. window movement, scrolling through image loaded websites or video playback (flash player, quicktime).

A restart didn't help. I'm using stereo output, not digital.

I have connected a second monitor but the problem persists after disconnecting it. Movement on the second monitor also causes the sound to stutter.

My GPU Diode temperature is at 85°C (there is some bug that keeps the GPU under load while a second monitor is connected AFAIK), but I guess it was the same under Snow Leopard.

In Snow Leopard the sound output was always perfect even under heavy load or heavy HDD I/O.

Any ideas?

I am also having this issue as well.

I opened Activity Monitor and noticed that during the stuttering, coreaudiod jumps in CPU usage, often past 5%. I have also noticed graphics lag when this occurs if I'm doing something like watching full-screen video or gaming.

I'm currently experiencing this on mid 2011 iMac 27" as well as a 24" iMac 2009 model I use at work.

I'm also posting on MR about this, having a similar issue with suttering / skipping since the upgrade

No drastic CPU useage when this happens, and it hits me at random. The PC does feel slower when its happening, though, and it seems to be triggered when swiping or typing or doing anything that requires processing (whereas if I just sit there listening to music, it wont start clipping by itself)

I get crackeling noise when using USB Audio.

Seems after I upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion some issues came up regarding my USB Audio Interface.

I use a LINE 6 PODxt plugged in through USB and record my guitar using it into LOGIC or other audio aps. But... i get this annoying Crackle noise, and cant figure it out.

Hi, Ivan.

I did have Soundflower installed. I deleted it, fixed permissions, fsck, etc., rebooted.

Same problem. After 5, 10, 15, ? minutes of watching full-screen video (using DVD Player, VLC, Safari, Firefox, etc.), the sound starts to crackle, then cut out completely.

About half the time, the video stops also.

I've kept Activity Monitor open all the time, but the only significant activity is DVD Player at 30-45% CPU while playing a movie.

A reboot fixes everything, but after a few minutes of full-screen video, the problem returns.

Glad I found this thread as I've been struggling with this since my upgrade.

I first noticed the issue when gaming when after about 15mins I got the odd cursor jump which turns into stuttering when scrolling. It gets progressively worse and the sound stutters too. After approx 30 mins it's like I'm watching a slide show at 1 frame per second with the confusion of the mouse still operating on a delay! It sort of feels like a gradual memory leak..?

I then noticed it when streaming video which I first put down to Internet lag.

Very unimpressed tbh. Slightly concerned reading the RAM question - I have 8gb of 3rd party RAM on board, is it likely to be an issue?

Will file a bug report too

Davidvoy, I have exactly the same problem on a new macbook air mid 2011 and on my faithful 2007 macbook pro.

The second after upgrading to ML, sound monitoring while recording through my podxt on logic or garage band became completely crackled on both macs, I have plugged the podxt through the audio input on the macbook pro and it works although I have a lot more background noise and bad distortion while recording at the volume I was recording through the USB. I guess they have messed up the audio-midi through USB but I don't know where to call or email to file for that bug... any advice ?

Crazy stuff. I use FireWire interfaces and having the same crackle/static recording on my computer in my pro studio... It hasn't affected playback of tracks recorded before the upgrade to ML, just new recorded tracks. Sounds that are monitored through my interface aren't affected until the point of recording into logic and playback of those tracks. I've had to push sessions and clients aren't happy... I hope Apple can sort it quickly. I weighed up the pros and cons before the upgrade (obviously not from forums) to ML and Logic was the last thing I'd expected not to work, but it's the biggest thing!! If anyone hears anything, please post and let us know.
