Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Dear community,

after having installed OSX Mountain Lion my sound startet stuttering whenever there is rapid movement on my screen.

This includes e.g. window movement, scrolling through image loaded websites or video playback (flash player, quicktime).

A restart didn't help. I'm using stereo output, not digital.

I have connected a second monitor but the problem persists after disconnecting it. Movement on the second monitor also causes the sound to stutter.

My GPU Diode temperature is at 85°C (there is some bug that keeps the GPU under load while a second monitor is connected AFAIK), but I guess it was the same under Snow Leopard.

In Snow Leopard the sound output was always perfect even under heavy load or heavy HDD I/O.

Any ideas?

I am also having this issue as well.

I opened Activity Monitor and noticed that during the stuttering, coreaudiod jumps in CPU usage, often past 5%. I have also noticed graphics lag when this occurs if I'm doing something like watching full-screen video or gaming.

I'm currently experiencing this on mid 2011 iMac 27" as well as a 24" iMac 2009 model I use at work.

I have everything plugged into the same power circuit, same happens on cable from headphone output

ok get all soundflower stuff out of your OS

Soundflower is a notorious problem

you may have to manually remove the kernel extension and check these folders in the root library:

Components

LaunchAgents

LaunchDaemons

Soundflower is brutal and does not work as advertized

correction i was in 10.8.2 i removed Soundflower did a restart... NO POP on startup! but soundflower still appears in audio /MIDI settings will double check folders for left overs and reboot again....🙂

did you check the folders in the root library?

do a command-F search for "soundflower" and activate the following:

kind is [any]

System files [are included]

File Visibility [visible or invisible]

yes soundflower is completely removed no had to remove

Soundflower.kext from /System/Library/Extensions

Noise is still there

will remove ableton and download again from their site tomorrow, maybe it helps.. have also ran a virus scan with ClamXav, getting desperate here 😁

I can confirm... 10.8.3 fixed the sound stuttering issues I was having when playing music or other audio and there were graphics involved such as videos, video games, rapidly moving windows, using 3D hardware enabled applications, etc.

So glad it was as easy as installing an update. However, still amazed it's taken them this long to address the issue and the update has not been made public, yet.

These problems are related, I've had that in PS too. The issue is with underlying OSX graphics card driver problems, which effects sound playback too. Apparently the 10.8.3x updates fix this. I've been offered the beta but cannot risk creating other issues with my production machine. Long and short of it is – we all just have to continue to wait patiently until 10.8.3 is stable. Shouldn't be much longer (famous last words!).
