Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Tough Love! I just did a Google search for "what is the cause of cracking sound in my computer" for you, and I found millions and millions of responses (majority of them are for windows computers). Hey Carlo, we know google, STOP! you are acting like a troll. I have no problems with static cracking noise or speaker problems.

The main problem of this thread is STUTTERING.

Audio stuttering, System stuttering, Stuttering whatever.

I looks like a OS problem, e.g., I'm just with iTunes, that's it, ITUNES.

It can't play music without stutterring every few seconds for 1s~3s.

BUT it can stream (by radio) music and play without stuttering.

Ocasionally I get mouse stuttering, but it's not so frequent, but I wasn't experiencing this till Mountain Lion. There are several reports about different kinds of stuttering while playing games, playing ripped dvd, playing music.

So please, stop, and read.

Seems like I have the same problem here too.

I've been running ML since the beta stages and installed the release version the day it came out.

I don't recall noticing my 2011 27" iMac getting as hot as it does since the first time I installed ML on it. Maybe it's co-incidence, but I'm quite sure it's not. The GPU diode is regularly up at high temperatures - over 70. I've used SMC fan control a few times to bring the temperatures back down.

I've been playing full screen video through EyeTV a couple of times in the last week or so and the audio has begun to stutter. Pausing and un-pausing cures it for a few seconds until it resumes. When it happened today, the GPU diode was at 85C. The top of the computer too hot to hold your hand on for more than a few seconds. This is sometihng I've noticed a few times, as mentioned above, hence the use of SMC.

I did have soundflower installed (although never used) so I removed that based on advice earlier in the thread.

2011 iMac and got some pretty serious clipping sounds in heavy 3D games like Dirt 2 and Diablo 3 (and less but still present clipping sounds on smaller games). I really hope this will be fixed in 10.8.1

Same problem here! iMac 27" 2011 3,1 GHz…I hope 10.8.1 will fix this and will be released soon (Beta 12b13)!

same problem here.. with new retina mbpro.. blah stutters in every program spotify, itunes etc.

_coreaudio process jumps above 10% cpu time when stuttering occurs.

At last I have my Samsung Galaxy Note to hear music, browse the web and play games without hiccups.

Today I think I also have a confirmation that my macbook is getting warmer for no apparent reason. I'm just affraid this Mountain Lion will blow up sometime.

Just an update guys, but since updating to 10.8.1 on my R-MBP, I haven't had any instances of audio stuttering

I *think* my battery life has been adversely affected...but I've paid close attention to audio since taking the leap of faith and so far so good

I've given up on Mountain Lion for the time being, really glad I have a clone of my Lion install! I really like the features of ML, but I never knew when the Audio hicup was going to happen! And it really did feel like a heating issue, at least in the way the systen behaved! like an older PC getting hit with a newer game and stuttering and chopping as things got busy! Not the sort of behavior I expect from a 1 year old iMac with an i7 processor and a 2 GB video card!

Also I couldn't seem to find a 10.8.1 update for my iMac, unless it was one of the iPhoto updates I encountered.

Meanwhile it's back to lion, I can listen to a Podcast, watch Netflix.ca, even watch my EyeTV without any problems!

I just wish I could get my money back, even if it was only $20.00!!

I just pray it's not degrading my machine... I've not made a backup and don't want to revert the whole thing....

...This is kind of a BIG bug. Let's hope they get on this one in a hurry. I'm embarassed to confront Windows users with this one...."Hi, I'm a PC"....."And I'm a M..M..M Mac."

So I reinstalled ML and applied the 10.8.1 delta patch, the bug is still there. Reverting back to Lion again .. lol.

I've noticed my performance is actually getting worse.

I don't knwo if the temperature is a red herring, but it's interesting that I'm sitting here in the UK in the middle of a heatwave with high humidity....

I spoke to a friend with a MBP who said whilst he hasn't seen the issues we're seeing, his battery performance has plummeted with an increase in heat output...

I am totally frustrated because of this annoying sound.

Is there any possibility to switch back to Lion if I don't have a Lion Install Disc?
