Q: Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Dear community,

after having installed OSX Mountain Lion my sound startet stuttering whenever there is rapid movement on my screen.

This includes e.g. window movement, scrolling through image loaded websites or video playback (flash player, quicktime).

A restart didn't help. I'm using stereo output, not digital.

I have connected a second monitor but the problem persists after disconnecting it. Movement on the second monitor also causes the sound to stutter.

My GPU Diode temperature is at 85°C (there is some bug that keeps the GPU under load while a second monitor is connected AFAIK), but I guess it was the same under Snow Leopard.

In Snow Leopard the sound output was always perfect even under heavy load or heavy HDD I/O.

Any ideas?

I called them, they said: "Install a new Version of ML"

    Did it, nothing changed.

    -> Called again: "Hardware bug"

But this problem occurred only after ML was installed! Does ML destoy hardware?!?

To be fair, I thought it was a fault of my ISP - I've had a few issues in the past and to find this support chat here wasnt easy and took a few google searches ..... this was a whilst ago and everyday I go online and listen to music and hear the snap crackle and pop guys ******* about and it just gets me down ..... and yep, started happening straight after an automatic upgrade to mountain lion ........ if people call round to mine, im about to throw £1500 out the window .... apparently it seems I've done it buying an Apple .... though it seems I've bought the apple with a giant chunk bit out of it .... the kind that you really dont want to eat just put in the bin but its an expensive Apple and you have to faith...... **** testing guys and **** response to Apple owners concerns .... just when will a fix be done so people can do what they expect to do when forking out over 1.5k of their hard earned cash and sit down, chill and relax to the quality sound of music without snnna snap craccckkle and ******* poppp !!!! come on ....

Since installing OSX Mountain Lion, I've had the same issues with random sound stutters and video stutters.  The other day, I was playing a video from youtube and the audio disappeared then the video froze.  I exited and relaunched safari.  I had been listening to the video with my earphones- and when the file launched again- it played a very loud shreak sound that just about made me pee my pants!  It actually hurt my ears!

Most recently, I've experienced random clicking noises (without any specific music or sound programs launched.) I haven't been able to find any solutions online.

    The big questions:

Is there anyone with a solution?

What are you doing to avoid this issue?

I can confirm that 10.8.1 fixed the problem (that I uploaded an audio clip of) for me, and 10.8.2 has had continued stability with zero instances since the update.

    That's me.

Are we all having the same, uniform, problem, though? I mean, one user here has outbound audio recording feedback, which is an entirely different issue from what I had.

Like many here, I consider myself a power user who has spent thousands on a multitude of Apple products and expect far more than an upgrade that breaks my system. It's embarrassing. My solution has been to CCC back to Lion and the problem solved itself instantly. Poor.

This shouldnt be left to a community to navigate a fudge solution weeks after Apple have broken a large number of our top spec machines.

I am using an iMac and the problem still exists (10.8.1). Are you using a Macbook (Air/Retina)?

BTW: I paid for Lion. How can I download it now?!? Can't find it in the Appstore!

Do you think Apple is working on a fix?

Apple Care (Germany) said that this is NOT a known issue.

I cannot live without the music, without youtube, without movies…

Oh yeah, this thing MUST be more known, for sure. Shame on Apple, how can we make it even more known, everywhere, let's do it, spread the word. #AppleFail

I think all participants of this threat should must give Apple some feedback:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

This is the only thing we can do right now.

The problem is present in 10.8.1 too.

I'm using Logic Pro mainly with internal audio and external Firewire interface (Focusrite Saffire Pro 40).

Incresing the buffer size improved somehow the problem but I still get sporadic crackles and stuttering even in recorded audio (ruined takes).

Unresponsive UI in Logic Pro while tweaking plugins is also a ML bug.

The problem is still present in 10.8.1 . I mainly use VLC and mplayerx for my video files and both suffer from it.

Ok, I think is enough, everybody knows nothing changes with 10.8.1.
