Q: Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Dear community,

after having installed OSX Mountain Lion my sound startet stuttering whenever there is rapid movement on my screen.

This includes e.g. window movement, scrolling through image loaded websites or video playback (flash player, quicktime).

A restart didn't help. I'm using stereo output, not digital.

I have connected a second monitor but the problem persists after disconnecting it. Movement on the second monitor also causes the sound to stutter.

My GPU Diode temperature is at 85°C (there is some bug that keeps the GPU under load while a second monitor is connected AFAIK), but I guess it was the same under Snow Leopard.

In Snow Leopard the sound output was always perfect even under heavy load or heavy HDD I/O.

Any ideas?

no fix in 10.8.2 , little bit disappointing as new update is miles away.

Has any of you with the sound stutter issue, also noticed that an external drive constantly trying to spin up when the system goes to sleep? When I awake the system I see the standard warning that a drive was inappropriately removed.

My mouse is still skipping too.  I don't get it.  Why is this such a difficult task for them to fix?  I don't care about facebook integration.  Just make my mac work!

the issue is still present after upgrading to 10.8.2.

It doesn't matter if I'm playing sound and/or video through the internal speakers or the usb speakers, the issue will occur at a seemingly random point in time.

It's not only stuttering sound, but also stuttering video on some occasions, although less frequent. It doesn't seem to matter whether the video or audio file is on the SSD drive or the internal HD drive.

I am using a mid-2011 iMac 27" 3.4Ghz, and it seems that issue occurs a lot on those high-end iMacs.

I'm puzzled... and astonished that Apple does not seem to want to recognize the issue.

Unless they don't have a fix at this point and want to downplay the issue...

I decided to call Apple again today and got a very helpful technician who is a senior-level tech.  He was very helpful and listening to what the problem was, he helped me walk through trying to clear and empty the system cache, and we both agreed that the issue stems much deeper into the operating system and potentially is a driver issue. I sent him an email link to this discussion so that he can see firsthand how widespread the issue is.

I also documented within the other issues pertaining to the increased heat that the computers seem to dissipate that exists underneath Mountain lion, the video stuttering, and also the issue with mouse cursor jumping all over the screen when the system incurs any kind of load. I think all of these things are interrelated with regards to the sound stutter.

He understood that my patience is waning and that many other Apple customers are also in the same boat.  This OS is potentially damaging my two iMacs and I take it very seriously when thousands of my dollars are at risk due to poor software.   I'll keep everyone posted.  And I have submitted many feedback forms to apple.  I can't say it's done much good though.

Yep, I have the same model and same problems. This thread has over 16,000 views, it's constantly on the front page of the Mountain Lion forum, why the **** can't an Apple techy just give an indication that they're looking into this?!

I just want my Lion back.  Mountain Lion can stay in the mountains!

You know what, in protest everyone should request a refund for the unfunctional Mountain Lion and just install the Lion back. I think I'm gonna do that...

I also noticed the audio stutter started up when my mac kicked in the screen saver and again did it when i exited the screen saver.  Why is this such a difficult task for apple?
