Nice troll, Carlo. Most of us know how to install an OS, even a toy one.

I am not trolling... I am telling it the way it is.

It may sound strange, but today is the first that I am actually facing this problem, even though I installed Mountain Lion just a week or so post its release. Put it down to not being able to use the Macbook for some time for videos. My videos start stuttering / slowing down, the audio starts freezing up (in some cases, the video starts playing faster), but in either case, the video quickly gets out of sync with the audio and the whole thing just becomes far too traumatic to watch. Its a pity since I've been going out telling everyone that the Macbook is just the most hassle free device I have come across and bang, this has to happen. I am on 10.8.2 (just installed the supplemental update 1.0 - which weirdly took me through the entire iCloud / iMessage installation). I am using a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro - default configuration, with 4GB RAM, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo.

Btw, my MBP came with stock Snow Leopard and since I was non chalant enough to make two updates without a backup, my only choice would seem to be a clean install to SL (after saving my docs somewhere) and then upgrading to Lion. Am I right in this? Can someone guide me through this?

That's fair enough and yes that is clearly what I may have to do, but if I paid BMW to send me their new 'funky go faster' box that I could attach to the car myself, then find out my car conks out the moment I drive it out of my garage, I would expect to be able to take that 'funky go faster' box off my car without the inconvinience of packing my car up and handing it over to a BMW mechanic for a week to try and fix it leaving me without a car!

Well I'm sorry to report that after I did a re-install of Mountain Lion on my iMac 27" 28 GHz i7 the stutter is back. This was after several days of stutter free listening on iTunes. I do by the way have 16 GB OWC memory. If I can find my original memory I'll try putting it back in and see if there is any difference.

I'm tempted to do another reinstall to see if I can get a few days of no stuttering. I wonder if Van Morrison knows he stutters

Make an appointment and you will be in and out perhaps the same day. Make sure you have a backup of your data before bringing it Or they can do it for you but it will save you if you do that your self. Keep us posted. I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and I have no problems.

I'm going to reply to my own posting to update it. My second reinstall has killed the stutter for about an hour. I don't know why the fix got broken? I have not installed anything new. However I did run CleanMyMac application after serveral days of no stutter. The day after I ran it the stutter re-appeared. I have no idea if this is connected to CleanMyMac or not.

A reinstall a day keeps the stutter away

Because all the pops and stutters I had enough of the whole Mountain Lion upgrade and i wanted to go back to Lion... Now the official way (appstore) is not possible cause my current version is too new.

Then i made with the Lion I downloaded a bootable USB stick i get the same result.. Then i tried to erase everything using disc utitly and it wont let me erase my disc (button stays grey). My mac has become totally useless for me. All I do is audio. IS THIS THE QUALITY THEY PROMISE US?! Even the cheapest! pc would get me much further now!!!! Spending a whole day trying to fix that ******* upgrade from **** and reinstalling former stuff you paid for isn't aloud anymore!? WHY NOT?! Why aren't we aloud to go back.. I paid for it isn't it. Today i lost ALL trust in apple and if I have to buy a new computer i'm gonna have serious doubts about it. Better fix it fast cause i'm in need of a laptop again right now. Don't even think i'm gonna spend 2000 euro's on a box filled with false promeses.

Could it be that Apple is only interested in this problem, because they have the same problems with their new 2012 iMac generation (which would also explain why the new iMac generation is not released, yet)?!?

    ...just an idea

  • BarrettF77 Level 1 Level 1

If that's the case, then I'm guessing they are getting a lot of customers crying foul from buying their new iMacs that are shipping now?  Perhaps apple is having to replace current gen macs right now and they don't want to have a new model come out and have a whole lot of returns?

I'm waiting till they release the new iMac and if it isn't fixed yet, it's Lion for me and I start transitioning my business to PCs and personal iMac over to Windows again.  If there is one good thing that's come from this is I've helped a lot of family, friends, and others through social networking avoid buying a Mac so they don't have the same productivity loss I have experienced.  I also sent apple and posted videos online of what I've dealt with.  We just need to keep getting the word out there so others with this problem can know that it isn't their hardware that's faulty, but the operating system.  Nothing worse than someone having to lug a 50 pound 27" iMac to a apple store.

I was pleased when my Apple contact was showing an interest when trying to resolve the mountain lion problem.  I'm not so pleased that I've had no response when I said enough was enough and I want to go back to Lion.

Anyway, I've tweeted this, at least my computer does provide one useful reliable service -

Lets hope not.  I have A LOT of MP3's!!

Not only sound, I've begun to notice this is one slow buggy OS. Snow Lep was perfect, this ML thing is junk.

You guys aren't going to fix the bug, it's deep in apples OS. They should be doing the work and issuing a communication about that.

    Hi Carlo. No change.
