Q: Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

Dear community,

after having installed OSX Mountain Lion my sound startet stuttering whenever there is rapid movement on my screen.

This includes e.g. window movement, scrolling through image loaded websites or video playback (flash player, quicktime).

A restart didn't help. I'm using stereo output, not digital.

I have connected a second monitor but the problem persists after disconnecting it. Movement on the second monitor also causes the sound to stutter.

My GPU Diode temperature is at 85°C (there is some bug that keeps the GPU under load while a second monitor is connected AFAIK), but I guess it was the same under Snow Leopard.

In Snow Leopard the sound output was always perfect even under heavy load or heavy HDD I/O.

Any ideas?

Gotta ask - new update with "general stability improvements."  Anyone apply the update and have miraculous results?  I'm not holding my breath. . . .

An American update by any chance? Over the pond all I got was a digital camera RAW compatability update.

I'd like to know if mountain goat works too.  A few posts confirming would be nice.  Tax it using a game or something and it will show up quickly.

I have no idea.  I don't see it either.  I saw it mentioned on Apple Insider, and it may only be applicable to the new macs.

The update is only for 2012 models.  Likely again apple hasn't been working on this issue and instead pushing for newer product.  Perhaps apple should just give me new computers that are compatible with OSX since they can't seem to make the other way around work.

I thought I had my reportcrash (which causes the stuttering/crackling on my computer) narrowed down to skype so I reinstalled. Now it just bounces in the dock never actually opening up, using 99% of my CPU. I think it's time Apple recalled ML and refunded everybody as it doesn't appear anything works with it.

    LouFace has it right.

The new Maps was a failure and this Tim Cook guy had to issue an apology to the world. I knew maps was a failure within 5 seconds of opening it last week, they screwed up was previously working with short sighted "adding features". Very "windows" in its thinking.  Clearly they are either not testing anything, or just making very bad decisions.

ML is the second big failure and a second apology to the world should be issued.

Why is Tim Cook paid $350M to screw up was working?  No action is the best action sometimes.  Jobs knew that.

And to bring up a third failure this year:

iCloud is so beta. Why do notes still not sync correctly with duplicate notes and bugs everywhere?  If it's not ready don't ship it.  The iDisk was a must-have thing artists were using for years, discontinuing that and iWeb, and we get i-freakin-cloud instead?

Yeah nice one.  Why not throw in a free Zune so our lives can be total ****.

    Hello at all,

I was complaining about this on the first pages of this thread too, went back to Snow Leopard (upgraded to Lion in the meantime).

I decided to give it another try (nearly 2 months passed since) - I'm using Mountain Lion for 2 weeks now (on the same machine) and it's working perfectly fine. Could be coincidence, luck, or maybe they fixed it without indication because they were ashamed

I thought this was worth mentioning, after all the trouble this caused.

    Regards,

    Lyone

I subscribed to this thread to get updates on this bug, not to read a bunch of whining about Apple in general. If I wanted that I would go to Google+. Please stay on topic.

Well I've re-installed everything in Lion that I also had in Mountain Lion and everything working perfectly.

I just don't buy the fact there's a hardware failure that's suddenly appeared on a stack of people's machines the moment they download ML!  It's just been a badly tested piece if software...that doesn't work properly!

I have the exact same bug with a 12 GB iMac 3.1 GHz i5.

The mouse always lag the same time as the sound lag, it's like if the whole imac was struggling to execute a simple task, but there is nothing that it shouldn't be able to handle easily. It happens e.g. when watching a youtube video, or a movie with quicktime, or playing sc2 (which is REALLY bad when it happens), etc...

It is really software related, maybe we have a commun software that make this bug to happen but the more obvious reason would be because of ML (it was working fine with SL).

Please if somebody figure this out, share.

    Hi Grenerg,

If you check my initial post here and the entry here: http://www.iternity.co.uk/phorum/read.php?4,220

you will see that processor and RAM is not all you should be looking into - hardware wise.

Faster hard drive in all seven of the cases I came accross solved the problem.

I'm NOT saying that there is all good with ML (it is just heavy)  and that you should go and spend $100s to complete your $14 OS upgrade. Just sharing what has worked - which is a very expensive solution.

    Good luck,

    TZ
