How do I change the default save location for new files in Pages back from iCloud to my Documents folder?

I agree with Kenneth. SugarSync is a much better way to have access to your documents anywhere.

I would agree that other services are more flexible, since there are several limitations with iCloud.

1) It's on a per App basis, not on a file / folder basis - terrible design decision in my view. If you want to jump to another app for a certain feature you'll need to duplicate the file.

2) It's a walled garden, only app sold via the AppStore can use iCloud.

3) The two points above make it an inflexible solution, especially for many of the non-appstore programs I've already bought and use.

That's why I use Dropbox instead of iCloud, but there is another Lion feature could cause problems - auto save in Lion compatible apps will cause unnecessary version of the file to be pushed to Dropbox.

I just intend to use iCloud for a few documents with iWorks, since it integrates well with Apples iOS apps (and I doubt Apple will provide direct integration for third part clouds in their apps). The forced default on the Save panel was certainly annoying, which was the original question of the thread.

But how do I then save seomthing to the cloud when that is my intention. I like that the dafault is now back to saving to my hard drive, but I can't find how to save to the cloud when I want.

I suggest that you join those of us who are sending Feedback to Apple (Pages Menu) asking them to please make the folder selection "sticky".

If the application you are using supports iCloud (eg Pages / Textedit under Mountain Lion) then click on the folder dropdown. In the list there should be a section for iCloud, which relates to that app. It will also show any folder groupings you've mad in that app on the cloud.

Since I ran the termincal command suggested here, there is no longer any reference to icloud in the save dialouge windows or dropdowns.

You can either save it to you hard disk or to the iCloud. If the file is already on your HD, you can use Duplicate and create a copy on the iCloud, or there is also a "Move to iCloud..." if you right click on the documents title.

It is not on my HD. New document - Save - no reference or way to get it to icloud from there.

What version of the iOS are you using? What application and version are you creating the document in?

Bernie, Have you run the terminal command suggested in this post? If so, when you go to save a document, how do you get it to icloud? If you have not run the terminal command, then you really can't help.

I'm using all updated versions of everything and saving in Pages.

If you are running on Lion 10.7 you will not have iCloud support in the Save dialogs

If you are running on Mountina Lion 10.8 you should see the iCloud locations in the folder drop down.

I have both 10.7 and 10.8 and checked this in Textedit and Pages.

I have run the command on 10.8 because I suggested it in the forum 🙂

I am running mountain Lion. I have hunted and hunted and I see no reference to icloud in the folder dropdown. Just my local files. And using data and documents is still turned on in the icloud preferences. Here is the initial screen I see when I go to save a new document.
