After getting Mountain Lion installed and notification center setup, I only receive notifications for Twitter and Reminders.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Facebook, Mail, Messages, and all the others are not alerting and are not showing up when I open the right sidebar.

From my experience, you need to keep those apps opened. If you don't, then it won't (i know it makes no sense at all). BTW, Facebook integration is not yet available, you gotta wait october when ios 6 will come out.
Thanks very much for your input. I opened my Mail App and now I do get notifications in the sidebar, but the alerts are not working at all. I am beginning to think it's semi-useless.
Even with my Mail app & Messages app open Notification center is still empty.
Kind of a waste if you have to keep the App Open. If that it the case, the bouncing icon would be enought notification for me.
And the Badges are not working either.
You need to set the check email to a certain time, not manually (Mail - Preferences - Check for new messages - (option should notbe manual) so that it will show in notification center. As for the usefullness of notification center, i completely agree with you. The only thing is that you don't have to open every single app every time like we normally do.
Same issue at kkita - I can't get messages in the notification center, whether the app is open or not...
I had this same problem Johmc Boston. I was trying to get my mail to show up in the notification center by emailing myself, but it would never work. However, I just noticed that when I receive an email from somebody else it works just fine. Maybe you should try getting somebody else to email you.
A restart helped as well - There was no notification history after messagein with my friend - and after a restart the history appeared. Not sure if it's 100% working right, but the restart helped.
I even went as far as reinstalling ML on a fresh new hard drive. Then migrate my data. Message Center still does not work. Even with Messages App open, and Mail app Open. At least now the badgets are working on the Mail App icon. But nothing shows up in the Message center.
What's the point in notifications if you have to lauch the app to get them? When you launch an app the application (such as mail) will notify you anyway rendering the notification function useless - this is MLs biggest dissapointment and probably OSX's biggest dissapointment period.
i was looking forward to this feature (one of the biggest selling points of mountain lion for me), and it doesn't work at all. i've tried pretty much everything recommended here: launch mail app and keep it open, restart computer, change alert styles, have friends send me test emails. i still can't get any mail notifications to show, whether as alerts or banners. any other ideas?
i'm also hoping it's not true that you need to launch the mail app to get those notifications. that would be just plain ridiculous. c'mon, apple.
I am also frustrated with "Notifications". I managed to get Mail to show up by switching my "receive mail" options in Mail/Prefrences. I am seriously dissapointed with the fact that the "mail" app has to be open for the notifications to work.
I just did a clean install of Mountain Lion and I thought that my issue with this had something to do with it. One thing is that my notification center for Facebook doesn't have all of the options that the OP's center has:
I deleted the PreferencePane for Notification and reinstalled 10.8.2 but I still get this result. No sound in Notifications on the Mac or my iPhone for Facebook.
Have you checked System Preferences/Notifications to ensure Mail is set up to work with Notifications?
