Mail accounts connection failed in Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday on my (mid 2010) Macbook Pro and everything seems to be great apart from the Mail app.

My mail accounts seem to constantly lose connection if I leave the Mac alone for a period of time, i.e I let it go to sleep, and then start using it again.

The connection failed is displayed next to each of my accounts (Gmail, couple of IMAP's and an exchange) and even though the connection doctor says the Internet connection is fine - attempting to take the accounts back online just does nothing and the accounts continue to be offline and not receiving mail.

Only way I can resolve it is to completely quit out of mail and re-launch it, then everything is fine again until I decide to let it sleep again...

Has anyone else been experiencing this at all? I've looked around but couldn't find anything. Not even sure where to start in trying to find the problem, as they simply don't connect, that's it.

Very same problem here. I'm Italian, then it seems problem isn't language-region-related. I think Apple must fix soon this...

But I must say that I cannot access anyway to mail. In and out are out of line.

I have the same problem... cannot connect to mail on cloud either... my iPhone and iPad cannot connect to iCloud... keeps asking for user name and password, but cannot connect.

same issue when I go on iCloud in Safari... cannot connect to mail??

Im the guy linked to in the post that also is having the same problem. I have not been able to find any other posts about such an issue online besides mine and this one. It would seem as if it is clearly a bug and we are going to have to wait for Apple to fix it. Hopefully that should be soon.

Hello,

I have the same problem here in Germany on MacBook Air 2011. I have to restart Mail every time after the sleep mode. Are there some solutions available ?

Having the exact same issue. Tried removing the account, restarting, and re-setting up but still an issue. Annoying as it screws up powernap

I also have this problem since updating to Mountain Lion.

Often, but not always, when I wake my imac from sleep, Mail shows that the connection has failed for all my accounts.However, I do not have to restart Mail; I just have to press the 'Get Mail' button and then it works again.

No solutions found, but I've created an automator app that works 'Get Mail' and placed it in the Dock, so I don't have to open the Mail window each time to check. A flimsy workaround, which hopefully Apple will soon render superfluous with a fix at the next update.

I still haven't found any fix to this issue. It seems to not happen all of the time bnut 99% of the time. I am thinking that it is the Mail app checking for new mail before the network card can aquire an IP and connect to the internet therefore putting the mail accounts offline. Ultimately, this is something that we will have to wait on Apple to fix. I hope OS 10.8.1 isn't too far away.

This is what I suspect as well, Computerwhiz1, and what I sent to Apple with the 'Provide Mail Feedback...' menu in Mail. I hope they read these messages.

I have the same problem with my yahoo e-mail account. It seems that the mails from yahoo came through but if I select 'Get new mail message', it would give me a connection error with yahoo server.

Same problem with Hotmail, Gmail and iCloud mail accounts. Mail does not reconnect after an interruption in network connection. Have to quit and relaunch. Any ideas.
