Internet not waking during sleep

Hi, I have a 2008 iMac, and when I used to put the display to sleep (ctrl-shift-eject), my computer would stay connected to the internet. I keep IRC open most of the time, so whenever the computer goes to sleep after a little while of display sleep, the internet will cut out and I get disconnected from the servers. Any ideas how to fix it?

In energy saver, I do have "Wake for network access" checked. I connect to the internet via an ethernet cable.

I have exactly the same problem with a late 2009 iMac. Same Energy Saver setting and also connect via Ethernet. All networking stops on sleep unlike with Lion.

Having the same problem on a 2011 MBP. Can't leave the laptop downloading overnight any longer, now the internet gets turned off completely even if there are active downloads.

i am having a very similar issue: WOL works great in my own WIFI but not from the outside.

the heck is hard to implement this right, apple. srsly :/

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
