I upgraded to Mountain Lion without thinking about the possibility that it would impact my printing capabiity. Well, it did. Anyone have an idea about a work around printing on an OKI C5150n using Mountain Lion?

This is how I finally got it to work:

  • Go to this page: http://www.oki.es/soporte/printer/printer-drivers/detail.aspx?prodid=tcm:102-131 699&driverid=tcm:102-136882-16 (I apologize that it is in Spanish)
  • Download the driver (GDI Driver for Mac OS X)
  • Install the driver onto your computer
  • Go to Print & Scan in System Preferences
  • Select the + sign in the bottom left corner of the Printers box to Add a printer.
  • Select the OKI-C5500-34B21D printer. Under "Use:" at the bottom, select "Select Printer Software".
  • Scroll down and Select "OKI C5650" (I know it's a different printer name).
  • It should prompt you to Repair Permissions. Say Yes.
  • Repairing will take a minute or two, but after it's finished, the printer should be added and it should work.

Did you try the driver that Oki has released for OS X 10.7? Usually those will work in OS X 10.8. It may be necessary to first reset the printing system to get things to work properly. Looking at the Oki installer, it would also be a good idea to repair permissions before you add your printer again. They have quite a few incorrect permissions on their files.

Just to add some clarity for new users because I had my beloved Okidata C5150n on the shelf for the last 3 years waiting for a driver to work. This printer rocks and is so frugal on ink, I couldn't ket it go. I have an iMac and MacBook Pro. Here is a summary of what got me going.

Model: Okidata C5150n

Driver Location: http://www.okidata.com/mkt/html/nf/Drivers.html

Date accessed: 09/09/2012

Driver Selected (drop down menu page): C5650n

Name Name (MAC OS Drivers page]): OKI C5650 Mac OS X (Hiper-C) Multilingual Driver installer

OS: Mac OS X.7 (10.7.4)

I hope users find this helpful. Good luck!

After getting the printer getting to work on my Mac Pro, I did exactly what I had done with my Mac Book Pro and had a similar problem - I wasn't asked to Repair and it asked be to use a Generic Driver. I restarted the Mac Book Pro and when I tried to install the driver that time, it asked me to "Repair." It worked. See if that works for your situation.

Sadly, I'm still having the same exact issues.

I have 10.8.1 installed and an OKI C5500 printer. None of the drivers appear to work, and I never get asked to "Repair" a driver when I install the printer. No matter what driver I install, when I add my printer, it searches for a driver then asks to "Use Generic." I have no option but to accept or cancel.

Once installed, the printer appears fine in the printer listing, but anytime I try to print something, it never reaches the printer.

No clue what is going on, but wish OKI was a more responsive company.

Thank you. The Oki driver for OS X 10.7 worked. I had to remove the restriction under "Secuirty & Privacy" in "System Preferences" to allow applications downloaded from "Anywhere" and then install the driver. I then had to add the printer under "Print and Scan" and select "Repair" when I got the message "The printer software was installed incorrectly." The printer is working perfectly now. Thank you for your help!

So, I'm having problems printing to my OKI C5500 from Mountain Lion, but my issues are slightly different. When I install the printer, I do not get asked to Repair, instead it asks if I want to use a Generic Driver. I have no option except to select yes.

The printer then appears to be installed properly, but everytime I try to print something, the printer does not receive it.

Any help?
