How do I close the reading list in Safari?
I opened my reading list and it is now using about 1/4 of my monitor screen. How do I close it?
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), MAC OS X Lion

Exactly as dominic23 states, I followed the step and lo and behold ... it was gone!
First open Safari, then choose Preferences from the drop-down menu.
Click on Bookmarks, then place check on Include Reading List -- the eyeglass icon then appears in the Bookmarks Bar at the top of the page.
Left click on the Eyeglass icon, and the Reading List column will disappear.
Hope this works.
It is very non-intuitive. Exactly as stated above you have to activate the bookmarks bar or reading list in preferences and then switch them offin the menu bar!
It took me three or four attempty to figure out what the right combination was
I do not know why it does not.
In this mbp I can click the eyeglasses icon to hide and open the Reading list underneath it.
Sorry that I could not help you.
Best.
Click the reading glass icon -the icon for show/hide reading list- again.
Hope it helps.
Hovering over the eye glasses doesn't give me the option to click on it.
Have you tried the Reading glass icon the first icon in the Bookmarks bar?
Worked, Thanks much.
Jeez
After you open Safari, click on "View" on the headboard. Then just select hide reading list. Or for a shortcut, just hold down the ⇧(upward arrow) , command button, and the "L" key
Thanks, that was exactly what I needed to do.
thanks for your help!
This is the only one that help me. It also appears to be significantly faster than any other attempt.
I clicked on all of the icons and it still will not close. Any more suggestions?
