Seems the recent update to iPhoto has broken the connection with my iPhone 4s. I have changed my iPhoto preferences to not launch/launch iPhoto when the iPhone is plugged in. Restarted iPhoto, my iMac and my iPhone. Still, each time I plug in my iPhone, I cannot connect it to iPhoto to import my pictures.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Thanks for the tip...but that did not work. Still cannot access my iPhone from iPhoto. Plugged my wife's iPhone 4 in as well with the same results.
Can you access it with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?
Doesn't appear I have Image Capture installed...know where I can download this software? Looks like it should be installed with Mountain Lion.
Yes it should. You will need to reinstall the OS to get it - and its absence might well explain the problem you are having with iPhoto.
