I have a MacBook running OS X 10.4.11. I've ordered a new Air. I've read some conflicting information about migrating data from a computer running Tiger over networks. Is it possible to migrate using a wired Ethernet direct connection (via USB adapter for the Air) from Tiger?

I would first upgrade your old computer to Snow Leopard before migrating.
Thanks for your reply. About upgrading...that seems like what I'll end up doing. Is that recommended or required, in your opinion. What's the advantage or reason for upgrading? Is it enable the Ethernet method of migrating?
It's required since you are trying to connect to a Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion.
If you simply copied your old Home folder to an external USB drive, then you could migrate your data from the hard drive and avoid trying to use a network connection.
