I should have said is there a way to set a pass code not auto-lock. A kinda self distruct log-in.

Filevault would seem to be your best option.
Filevault applies strong encryption to your entire disk so even if stolen, as long as you're using a good password, a thief will not be able to access your data. You can read me here http://www.apple.com/osx/what-is/security.html

Thanks RobotPi, the answer was right under my nose! This is the solution I need, I see FileVault2 on ML is now offering back up disc encryption which makes great sense. All the best :)

The ideal complement to it is disabling automatic login and having the system lock out after a certain period of inactivity and/or when the screensaver kicks in.
