Not sure if the feature was omitted with the latest Safari 6 update...
Try this.
Quit Safari. Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Safari
Click Go
Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test.

The problem continues, i think apple might have changed something in safari itself or mountain lion. I don't know.
Thank you anyway
I am effected by this after updating safari on Lion but without upgrading to mountain Lion
Then it must be something with safari 6. Didn't find solution yet
I noticed this when I upgraded all 3 of my machines to mountain lion gm seed and now retail. The delete .plist file only works cosmetically the once. Something seems to have changed in Safari itself.
There are no magic keypresses or hover areas or options to show this basic and needed statistic - why has it been removed?
Very annoying! I need to monitor my download speeds right now..
Is Safari 6 turning into the worst version yet? So many ommissions and things requiring technical workarounds (like choosing the default font).
I too regularly monitor download speed - it was bad enough that the Mac App Store didn't show it.
...
move your cursor to the top of the screen, right hand side corner, you will see an icon with an arrow pointing down. click on that icon, and you will get what you want.
I have the same problem, that I cant see speed status in the Downloads window (popup), there is only size and time, I need speed, why the developers hide this important information?
the problem has something to do with safari (v 6.0) not with the os, what i noticed is, sometimes it shows the transfer rate and sometimes not, it happened to me today, i was downloading a video and the download speed appeared for few seconds and then went away again, i guess it's a bug in safari 6, hope it'll be fixed soon
I'm using Safari 6.0.2 on OS X 10.8.2. Sometimes the download bar shows the download speed but not always. What I do after the download has started, I hold down the option key and click on the download progress bar, then the download speed will appear.
indeed , confirmed working on lion as well, it's funny i tried option click anywhere but the progress bar, thanks for the solution bro
Unaffected2,
Good to hear that it solved your problem. Please 'like' my solution so other people can share the solution too.
b.t.w. there's one limitation found: when the download speed become too slow or the bing time is too long, the download speed will be unavailable.
