Can't burn DVD (fails on verify)

This is starting to really pi$$ me off. Has anyone else experienced an issue with trying to burn a DVD data disk? I can't successfully burn, using Finder, a data DVD. It always fails the verify processing. Anyone else seeing this?

I create a burn folder on my desktop, drag files into it, then try and burn it. It burns successfully but ALWAYS fails during the verify phase and I have a toaster.
Is this a defective drive, anyone else see this?

TIA,
Peter

I just ran into this last night. Buring a DVD at 4x fails on every disk with several tries and three different media types. Burnin at 2X sometimes works. Burning a CD at 24x worked.

However on a second MacBook buring the DVD at 4x on a second MacBook worked just fine. Sounding like a hardware problem, but this would be the second return for this machine so I'm not too thrilled with the idea.

I'm having the same problem, there is definitely a hardware problem with my burner, burns CDs just fine but it will not properly burn DVDs at all, no matter what size or speed. I REALLY don't want to return this MBP but this is a huge issue for me with DVDs. I use it to back up my work constantly.

Anyone else having these issues?

I'm seeing these also. What I'm seeing is that a 4x burn almost never works, but a slower speed sometimes works. I was just able to make a burn of 4.35GB of data at 2x. I definitely can't get over 2GB at 4x and sometimes fail at 1GB at 4x.

But another MacBook didn't seem to have a problem doing 4.3GB at 4x. I'm pretty sure it must be hardware. I'm not thrilled with this since I already exchanged this machine once for a different problem. Last thing I'm probably going to do is reformat the machine, reinstall just OS X and take out the extra Apple memory just as verification but I can't see that this would be any different.

I am having this same issue as well. At first it just took forever to close the disc (about 15-20) minutes. I took it to an Apple "Genius" and they told me it's normal that closing a disc takes a long time if I'm not filling the DVD. So I took it back home.

Now, when I burn stuff, it fails and brings up a failure warning. So I'm ****** as can be. I'm gonna take mine back as well, and I hope they fix this issue. Anoyne figure out what it may be?

Hi all. I read your posts and I have the same your problem. I burned without failes with Princo and LG DVD but every time the verifiation fail on VERBATIM DVD. That's strange. I don't think is a problem of software, burn with Finder, Toast or Liquid CD gave me the same results.

The burn on VERBATIM works just at 1x and not always. After few days I will try burn a TDK DVD.

CD burn works pretty well.

I have the exact same problem with my new MacBook Pro 1.83.
So far I tryed something around 10 or 15 DVDs, they ALL failed on verify, no exception. I used many different brands including Apple branded media, and the problem is persistent.

My machine is up to date, with firmware and OS.

I really don´t want to return this machine, sending it to service here in Brazil, sometimes takes months. Anyone had any luck trying to solve through software?

Count me in as one of the guys who is having DVD burning problems while Verifying. I have problems burning different DVDs on three different situations:

1 - In Finder, during verification it spits out the DVD and reports a verification error.

2 - In Backup, it does the same thing as Finder burning during the verification process.

3 - In iDVD once the encoding is done, it tries to do the "lead in" or write in or whatever and then quits... it also spits out the disk.

As far is CD reading and writing and DVD reading, the comp is great. Some say it is a software issue... I don't think it is. I have used different types of DVDs and it still does the same thing. I have also downgraded my software to when it did author DVDs and that didn't work either.

AppleCare here I come (for the third time :-|)

Update on my problem, I updated the firmware to: MBP11.0055.B03, and the problem seems to be SOLVED. I managed to burn and pass verification on three DVDs today. It's the first time my machine does it.

In my previous post I stated that my MacBook was up to date, but I didn't realize that firmware updates don't show up on "Software Update", you have to download the manually from the site.

Good luck to everyone experiencing this issue. I nearly returned my machine for this.

I'm having a similar problem with my new macbook pro.. I got it about three weeks ago, and everytime I try to burn a DVD, i get an error message while verifying. I use Apple branded DVD-R's, so that really shouldn't be a problem. When I burn DVDs with just files, they still work despite the error message I get while verifying. When I burned a movie DVD, the dvd gets an error message again, but still works when I later pop it in to my macbook pro. It works in a sony dvd player as well, but not in my dell dimension desktop. What should I do?
