Mac Mail 6 is missing the "spinning wheel" indicator when checking for new mail

Before updating to Maountain Lion, when cheking for new mail in Mail, there was a little indicator ("spinning wheel") next to the Inbox to confirm it was actually working.

Since updating to Mountain Lion, the indicator isn't there. It's not that much of a big deal if it doesn't exist anymore, but it was good to have, and if it's just a setting I need to turn back on, then that would be cool, if I could find it 🙂

This is expected behavior. Apple removed the spinning indicator in Mountain Lion.

Activity Window does not show anything during the "getting" email process, unless an email is actually inbound / outbound.

So, if no email comes or goes, there's no visual confirmation about what Mail is doing - unless a Sound is set. But, the Sound isn't heard until the "getting" process is over.

I join the chorus asking Apple to put the Spinning Indicator back in Mail to visually confirm the Getting Mail process is working.

Called their support line with some other concerns.... but did mention to him the irratic and random appearance of the spinning mail wheel.

Said he has had a ton of calls on that issue... but it was not intentionally tampered with by the powers that be.

Also brought my attention to the addition of a progress bar at bottom left of same window.

A poor substitute indeed, in my humble opinion.
