Safari is a step backward in Mountain Lion!

What happened to the Google search window at the right hand corner of the menu bar in Safari? It's outrageous that it's been removed, and cannot have been done with the user in mind. Is there any way to restore it?

Smart search field

Safari now has one field for typing both search terms and web addresses. When you type in the field, Safari detects a likely web page match based on your previous browsing and presents it as a Top Hit. Top Hit suggestions improve as you select the results. (Source)

OK, I figured out how to easily clear the search history: Type a space in the address bar! It pops up a menu of your recent searches along with the option to "Clear recent searches", as well as letting you change the default search engine.

Also, in Safari's preferences, under Privacy, there is a new option "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions", which is useful for those who don't want all the crud when they start typing an address.

Safari 6 is officially the fastest web browser for me.

If you want to disable Safari's history's cache, clear your history first, exit safari and then go to

~/Library/Safari/History.plist and lock that file via the 'Get Info' menu option.
