AirPlay Mirroring has stoped working. Only audio but no video.

Hi

AirPlay Mirroring has just stoped working on my 2011 MacBook Air 11". I installed Mountain Lion a few days ago and tried the new AirPlay Mirroring immediately after installation and it worked perfectly, mirroring my desktop and outputing my audio to my AppleTV 3. Since then I haven't installed any new software or updates but now AirPlay Mirroring is broken for some reason. I cant see my desktop om my AppleTV anymore. I can only hear the audio. Picturewise the AppleTV just fades to a black screen when I activeate AirPlay Mirroring. I've tried a complete reinstall of Mountain Lion (a few times I might add) and from my experimeting I've noticed the following:

Imediately after installation (first reboot) AirPlay Mirroring is working just fine. I tried logging out and back in again to verify that it was still working and it was indeed. Next I tried to reboot my computer and after that it stopped working. And as I said, I haven't done any tinkering/configuring/updating or software installations in between.

Another weird thing is that I don't have any problem at all with AirPlaying videos from within iTunes.

This problem only occurs when trying to mirror my desktop from the Finder menu bar.

Has anyone else encountered the same issue?

I too am haveing the same porblem.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Diaplay, AppleTV 2 (720p), and Time Capsule.

All software and fimrare uodates are applied.

When selecting Airplay Mirroring from the menubar on the Mac, the apple TV displat goes to black, and only audio is transmited.

I have tried swithch the radio options on the Time Capsule as per mcbrian79's suggestion, but all options produce the same result.

Apple, please help....

You're not the only one.

Same problem, even applecare had no clue.

I've done everthing, reinstall, format, pram reset, disk utility, ...

But maybe I found an interesting temporarly solution:

Shut down the computer

Restart in safe mode (hold shift button when starting up)

When you are in safe mode, choose restart.

The computer will start in normal mode, then try to use airplay mirroring.

2 of the 3 times, I've got my desktop back on my tv.

Restart my computer again without going in safe mode --> back the black screen.

So going to safe mode en restart is helping.

Not a very good way to resolve it, I know.

Can anyone else try this pls?

I think it was a lucky shot.

Because now it isn't working anymore.

Only one big black screen. With my parents macbook pro 2011 everthing works fine. But in their network my macbook retina still fail to show a display on the tv.

No luck either 😟

I think airparrot works in another way than the build in airplay mirroring from mountain lion.

Airparrot works but a lot slower.

You are absolutely right! I cleared the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders (I have nothing in StartupItems) and restart, then voila! It's working now! 🙂

To play safe, I backed up those files onto the Desktop. And after Airplay Mirroring is working again, I restored those files to those folders and restarted again, and the mirrowing also works without problems!😁

It appears that Parallels 7 is not compatible with Airplay Desktop Mirroring in ML

If you remove this file com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist

inside

/Library/LaunchDaemons

then reboot.

ATV3 now works again with Airplay Mirroring.

However, it breaks Parallels. And you simply cannot put the com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist file back inside /Library/LaunchDaemons. You need to re-install Parrallels. Could be a permissions thing, but I tried to repair permissions and follow Parallels instructions on how to start and stop the service. Even chown root and chgrp system. But only a ReInstall fixed Parallels. Which then kills Airplay Desktop Mirroring.

I Hope this helps... If you don't use parallels, then it still could be something in the /Library/LaunchDaemons or /Library/LaucnhAgents directories

AirPlay Mirroring has stoped working. Only audio but no video.
