How to avoid some minutes 'grace' period after having entered your password?

My son has an iPad and enjoys downloading and playing free apps. Problem is that there seems to be a grace period after having entered the password where you can download anything without having to enter the password again. This has cost us a lot of money as it is impossible to choose 'none' under credit card. Don't tell me again to read the instructions on how to enter none under payment method. It is simply NOT an option. I have been trying using all links for several months.

Please instead tell me why there is a 'grace' payment period and how to avoid this. Thanks.

There is a default 15 minute period after which your password doesn't need to be re-entered - you can change it via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password set to 'Immediately'. You can also turn off the ability to make in-app purchases via the Restrictions screen.

You can create a new iTune and App Store account without credit card

1. Go to App Store and select a free app

2. Tap INSTALL APP

3. Create New Apple ID

4. Confirm Your Country

5. Agree with Terms and Conditions

6. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (must be a valid email address)

7. Create and answer your secret question e.g. What is the name of my dog?

8. Select NONE for Billing Information (see picture below)

9. Fill in Billing Address i.e. your address

10. Submit application for new Apple ID

11. Wait for verification email

12. When email arrive, verify your account

13. Start downloading your free apps

Thanks a million for the screen shot. Problem is - the screen dumb does not match anything I have ever seen on our iPad... The small house? No idea where to find it. I am really at a loss...

When I log in to the account I do not get the possibility to choose restrictions in settings. I can only choose where we use the IPad. Neither do we have the option of choosing 'none' under payment. It seems to me that you get different options depending on where you log into your account. It is extremely confusing.
