I just found my old widgets by going to

User/Library/Widgets/

I moved them from the folder to the desktop then tried to install them again. An error told me to adjust my Security preferences to allow apps which weren't developed and distributed through the App store (like, the normal option - apple changed this without asking!)

Having done that I could reinstall my widgets just fine.

Stil missing the option to install the "original" Apple widgets though. Ironic. I know.

Ok... I found out how to fix this. Apple (clever!) didn't make the installer copy over widgets to the User folder.

Go to:

Macintosh HD > Library > Widgets

Copy all the files in there to:

User > Library > Widgets

Your widgets should return, although you may have to set them all up again.

If you can't see the Library folder you can reveal it using this app: http://tweaksapp.com/app/mountain-tweaks/
