Lost my Google search toolbar in Safari with the upgrade

Lost my Google search toolbar in Safari with the upgrade to Mountain Lion. Tried View/Show Tool bar. No luck, did not not reappear. Tried customize Tool bar. Found it, but I can not drag it to the tool bar next to the internet address page. As I dragged it to where I wanted it (the same place as before; next to the internet addess line) I never got the little green plus sign to drop it into place. Help please.

Thanks so much for prompt response. I tried that, and it is set to Google in Setting>General. The google toolbar apears in the Custimze Toolbar drop down menu, but it is kinda greyed out. As I "grab it" and move it into position eveything moves around trying to make room for the search toolbar, but it never 'sticks' or says in in position.
