If you said internet steaming, that's not surprising, as it's diffcult for the G4's to keep up with the more complex video streams being used today. However, a DVD should be fine. Can you answer a few questions ....

How much memory (RAM) do you have?

How much free disk space on how large a drive do you have?

What level OS X are you running?

What CPU speed is your PowerBook?

Thanks for posting the information. What operating system are you running? How much free disk space do you have?

Is this stuttering something that recently started or is the PowerBook new to you and this is just the way it's performing?

Click the apple on the left of the menu bar, click about this mac, more info, then serial ATA, and under the hard drive it should tell you the capacity and the available space. Or choose the hard drive on your desktop and do command and I (letter I (eye)).

When i go to serial ATA it says

"This system does not contain any Serial-ATA devices. If you have any Serial-ATA devices installed, please check that they are connected and powered on"

My apology ... instead of serial ATA you should go to ATA at the top of the list.

When I click on ATA on my PowerBook, it shows two entries ... one for the DVD drive, which is what you posted above, and a second for the hard drive.  If yours doesn't have a second entry, then go to your desktop, click once on the hard drive to choose it, than push command and the I (eye) keys. That will tell you how much available space there is, too.

Thanks. Let's recap ... You have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook with 1.5GB of memory, and over 90GB of available space on the hard drive. The hard drive is a Seagate 5400 rpm 120GB drive, with SMART status verified. You're running OS X 10.5.8.

From this information, it would appear that your hardware is in good shape, so nothing to be done there. You could upgrade memory from 1.5GB to 2GB, however, I'm not sure that will solve your problem. I'm more concerned with lags when you play a DVD on your system. Streaming video over the internet is just not going to play well in all cases, which is a problem most all PowerBooks have to deal with today.

I would do the following.... first, download the 10.5.8 combo release from here. Using Disk Utility (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) repair permissions, then install the combo release, then when done, repair permissions again. The combo release contains all fixes to OS X 10.5, and sometimes can fix system issues. After that, run Software Update to pick up any other needed updates.

See if that affects how DVD video, not internet video, works. Better, no change, or worst?
