Reply to All includes myself in the recipients

Hello

Since the upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion, I get times (many) where when trying to "Reply to All" in mail, i am also in CC.

This happens especially when my email address is in the CC field of the original email, but not when I am in the To: field.

So when replyin to all, in case I was in the To: field everything is ok, but when I am in Cc: then my reply is also cc:ed to me.

I just use the SAME account to reply AND i have NOT auto bcc on.

Any ideas?

In Mail Preferences, Composing Section, uncheck "Automatically CC myself"

I may have found a workaround. If you go into preferences and check Automatically CC: myself under compose. Close preferences, and then close mail. Reopen mail, go back into preferences, and uncheck Automatically CC: myself. Close preferences and close mail.

Reopen mail. Voila. No more CC:s to me. I don't know how many of the above steps are essential, but at least for now, I am free of cc's to me.

Hm for me it does not solve the problem!

BUT I noticed also the following.

If at some point during a chain of emails i replied from my new ML machine, then when the conversation goes on, if I need to reply to all, my email gets automatically excluded (as it should).

However, if I choose to reply to all to a past email, where I have not interefered in the dicussion with my new machine, then my email gets in the cc: list (although it shouldn't)

Seems like the new Mail.app remembers if a mail has been send from it, and if yes then it excludes my address, but if it does not traces an email originating from itself, then it just includes myself to the recipients...

Strange...

But definately a bug, as this should not happen (after N replies to the same email from yourself, you will end up with NexpN-1 emails in your inbox!

That worked. Thanks.

Actually I think there is a variation on this issue that is not fixed by my suggestion above. It's related to another thread about how Mail handles replies. Let's say you have two email accounts: xx@me.com and XX@domain.com. If I receive an email to domain.com, and move that email into a folder on me.com, and then hit reply all, then my domain.com address will be replied to as well. This is because Mail in Lion now uses the maibox where the mail resides to determine which address will respond. So since I moved the domain.com address into a me.com folder, my reply all will be from my me.com address and my domain.com address will be included in the list of email recipients.

This is a major change from how Lion handled mail. In Lion it did not matter where you filed your email, it used the address to which the email was addressed to determine what address to respond from. You can read about this issue here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4148125

A number of us consider this a bug and have submitted reports to Apple. If you do as well, I encourage you to do the same.
