i bought a used ipod and it is reconized as a camera , but not by itunes, and it shows the cord and picture of itunes logo on screen, and thats it?

I bought a used ipod touch and my computer recognizes the camera, but it doesn't show the ipod connected? The screen on the ipod shows the cord with an arrow pointing to itunes logo and thats it?
