Feb 23, 2013 10:45 PM in response to amershirazby SimSamurai-dot-com,As usual a forum thread immediately tosses out numerous suggestions without anyone reviewing or explaining the basics first. Correct me if I am wrong but there are two concrete ways to transfer. A; Wired B: Wireless.
Up to this point all I've read for the wired type is simply .."connect your device to your computer"
Ok... HOW ???
Does the user need the special proprietary adapter (YES) If using the proprietary adapter does the user then additionally need a special Male-to-Male USB cord to then attach the iPad to a PC..(again..YES).
Next question is; do you you have to use the special adapter and a Male-to-Male USB cable or will an iPad charger / USB data cable work in its place instead? (I do not know...anyone???)
The other final "wired" option is to plug a USB thumb drive into the proprietary adapter and tranfer data from the iPad to the thumb drive. How to actually transfer files to a flash drive..(again...I do not know..anyone???).
The Wireless method via WiFi and apps like DropBox or iCloud, etc. are in my opinion only useful for small data transfers and are NOT useful when you need to transfer several gigs of data, especially things like video files. I have tried this in the past many times without success, or with failure. Photos yes...videos no.
Therefore in all cases, a direct wired hook-up from the iPad to PC will always be the fastest / best option.

Feb 27, 2013 6:43 PM in response to amershirazby VenusTC,Twocaratz - you are right, quite straight forward. Either open 'computer' and proceed or in my case, the Autoplay window popped up....no problems, imported about 600 pictures and videos quite fast.
SimSamurai-dot-com - I used the iPad charger/USB data cable. It worked just fine. I had difficulty with Dropbox as well, photos were fine but videos were a problem to import. If anyone has an idea about saving videos in Dropbox, please do share.
THank you

Dec 6, 2013 9:51 AM in response to amershirazby LexLester,When you are connecting your iPad with your PC, go to Control Panel, click 'view devices and printers' under Hardware and Sound. Your iPad device should be shown in there even it is not showing in My Computer. See whether there's troubleshoot for Apple iPad. Then troubleshoot it. It should be the device driver which is not functioning or being disabled or not up to date. You should be able to find your iPad under the Portable Devices in My Computer after the troubleshooting.

Jan 10, 2014 9:14 AM in response to LexLesterby Jwroenigk,I was able to connect iPad to pc, windows 7, and transfer some photos from iPad, by going into Control panel, Auto play, and scrolling to iPad, selecting ask me. But, the only photos that moved were the ones in Saved photos. I wasn't given a choice of folders or photos? How do I access the photos in albums?

Feb 23, 2014 2:06 PM in response to amershirazby kittyinhiding,If anyone still needs this and nothing else works, this is how I solved my problem.
Go to device manager and find "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver", probably under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Right click -> Update driver software. Select Browse my computer for driver software". Then Select "Let me pick...". You will get a menu to choose from, select the other option (MTP USB Device). This will recognise the ipad as storage. The ipad should now show up in My Computer.

Mar 21, 2014 8:00 PM in response to kittyinhidingby skymimo, kittyinhiding, your solution worked for this problem with my ipad air. iTunes recognized it but my Dell running Windows 7 was not seeing it as a device. It now shows up as Apple iPad under Computer but in Device Manager, you won't find it under USB controllers but under "Portable Devices." Thanks!

Apr 2, 2014 6:03 AM in response to amershirazby glendwr,Hi all, I am expereiencing the same problem of being able to copy 83 photos from PHOTO on my iPad to my computer but not being able to copy or even see the photos in ALBUMS on my computer
I can see the Ipad as a drive/Internal Storage/DCIM/8600KMZO and then the 83 photos. I cannot access the ALBUMS.
Are there hidden files under DCIM that I am unable to see or is there another way to access them.
Thanks

Jul 13, 2014 8:27 AM in response to amershirazby Midnight_inparis,Hi,
it's very simple actually.
Before you connect your Ipad to PC, you have to logout or uninstall Icloud.
After that you connect your Ipad to PC, computer will ask you if you want to import pictures and videos.
I just did it myself, had the same problem, so it Must work for you as well!
