open activity monitor - under all processes - see what's using up most of your cpu's resources - highlight the ones using the most %CPU and hit quit process.

if you're not using bluetooth, turn it off to....

also turn off your automatic brightness....

the above 2 are for your battery issues...

last - open disk utility and verify your disk permissions - repair them if needed....once repair has been done, restart your macbook and see if there are any changes....

I have the same model as yours and i'm getting over 6 hours in battery life with ML installed...

good luck

guys, i had the same problem - though worse. 20 mins batt life max.

solution - unplug your comp from the charger, let it drain till batt is completely flat. then plug in charger. watch your comp start up SILENTLY! no more fan problems!! yay!!

symptoms of my problem previously were batt indicator always shows X, batt charger light indicator was always off and fan speed always max. now it's all aok already! yay!!

The exact same thing happened when I upgraded my MacBook to Lion. If you look at what processes are running (in Activity Monitor) you see "mds" is using a lot of CPU cycles. This is the process that Spotlight uses to index your hard drive. If it doesn't complete before you shut down, it will start all over again the next time you power up.

Leave your MBA/MBP connected to power for several hours, or overnight, at least as long as that mds process is running. If you click on the Spotlight icon in the menu bar while mds is running it should tell you that it is indexing and give you an estimated amount of time left, from what I remember.

Hi!

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro. I've bought ML 2 weeks ago.

First I found that fans were on all the time "eating" my battery. Then I read a post about idle processes and found that Kies was doing strange things (even if the app wasn't launched). I've deleted Kies and fans started working normally most of the time. But there is one software (Lumapix Fotofusion) that still makes my computer go crazy. Sometimes I think it is going to explode. This is an app I need to work and I can´t uninstall.

I've been reading and I'm going to see if resetting the SMC helps and let you know.

I am having the same problem. My fans almost never shut down, my MB Pro 13" is hot, and my battery drains in just over an hour (I was getting between 4-5 hours before I installed Mountain Lion). I have uninstalled Kies from my startup items, as well as the Growl agent... Bit, sadly it does not seem to have solved the problem for me.

Is there any way to uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to Lion?

Thanks,

Dion

I had similar issues. Battery drained from 100% to 80% in around 15 mins with nothing much running. Also, the aluminium just above the keypad was getting really really hot. Remaining time displayed was 2:10 hrs

I shut down all apps and restarted the Laptop and things came back to normal. Battery is now 75% after about an hour after restart and remaining battery time shows around 4:25 minutes.

I think there was some process hogging CPU and not letting go at all. I somehow suspect Safari as somehow the sequence of events seem to point at that as being the starting point of overheating.

Maybe next time I shoulddo as suggested by Bimmer 7 Series i.e the CPU usage and disk permission check.
