I have an iPad 2 but when people call me on Facetime or on Skype it doesn't ring. I tried to add a ringtone but it doesn't seem to work... When I watch videos on YouTube i can hear normally, so the problem isn't the speaker.... can anybody help me?
This is very easy to resolve - here are the steps
1. settings
2. general
3. where it says 'Use Side switch to' you will see two choices
a) Lock rotation
b) Mute
Mute will be ticked if you are not getting a ringtone when someone calls you on Facetime
Simply Click on 'Lock Rotation'
Lock Rotation will now be ticked
Mute will be unticked.
Facetime calls will now ring your iPad
also you must ensure your ringtone sound is On.

My iPad 2 was set to Lock Rotation. I simply switch to Mute and solved the problem. So changing the setting is the key to fixing the problem.
How about if I'm on a MacBook Pro, not an iPad? I have the same problem: when others try to FaceTime me, I don't get a ring. But I can call them just fine. Thanks.
thank you! Saw all kinds of weird suggestions like resetting routers, etc. knew it had to be something simple, yet not entirely obvious! And my problem was that the switch was set for use as a mute switch AND I had the switch turned to mute! Can leave it on that setting and just make sure it's not off if you don't want to change the function of the switch to "lock rotation". OMG-so simple!
Yes, me too! My iPad was "already" set correctly to "lock rotation" but it would not ring. So, I changed it to "mute" then immediately back to "lock screen". That resolved problem on my iPad 5 immediately! Thanks BarryRedhead!!!!..........

It has been driving me insane for days.
TThat works well but now the rotation of the screen is locked. Surely I can get both functions . I certainly could last week!
MY iPad had this problem and was already switched to 'Lock rotation'.
However, switching it to 'Mute' then immediately back again solved it.
This was exactly my problem as well. Did the same thing. It's a glitch in the OS. You just toggle the check mark between Mute and Lock Rotation a couple of times and then finally put the checkmark on the Lock Rotation. That solved the issue.
