after upgrading to mountain lion, my ip camera video feeds time out

I've been using my iMacs for a few years to monitor six ip Camera video feeds. The cameras I use are both FOSCAM and AXIS brands. I've used a few third party software solutions to do the monitoring, but I could also always use Safari to access a camera at a time by putting that camera's IP address in the address field and logging into the camera.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my video feeds started timing out when using DComplex's IP Camera Viewer, so I thought initially it was strictly an issue with that third party app. However, I then logged into my cameras using Safari and they timed out as well. Similarly, when using Axis Camera viewer, my video feeds would time out. It seems as whatever the issue, it does not affect Firefox, because I can still login and monitor 1 feed at a time using that browser without any timeout issues, and for some odd reason, the FOSCAM only program uFoscam works, but the problem for me with that app is that it only works with Foscam, and not the Axis cameras (besides it's an inferior program to IP Camera Viewer in my opinion as well).

Has anyone encountered this problem and come up with a solution? I'm thinking it's some sort of plugin or video codec problem, but it's well above my paygrade to figure it out.

I'd started another post before finding this. Same problem, video streams freeze on my IP camera in Safari on Mountain Lion where they worked just fine in Safari on Lion. I have now installed Google Chrome and set it as my default browser due to this issue. Note that Opera works but doesn't display the cam's web server links properly (every link says undefined).

Confirming same behavior with the 3rd party apps I found in the app store, namely IP Camera Viewer.

The Security Spy software looks nice but I really don't need that level of sophistication to monitor 3 low-end IP cameras. There is a $10 app in the app store called uNetCams which I'd purchase if someone can confirm it works. Hopefully someone reading this post has installed that software. If so, I'd be interested in knowing.

Thanks!

I'm sure that you're right that they look at this stuff, but Apple is notoriously secretive and they almost never acknowledge problems, they try and fix them as quietly as they can without comment. I'm hoping and praying that they're working on this in their OS update that is now in beta. It's a big problem. So much so that I'm looking at a Windows platform to monitor my IP cameras if this isn't resolved soon.

IF the issue is with Safari why would you try a dedicated app like "uNetCams" or similar?

Running another computer for Window seems like more effort.

Can you confirm uNetCams works with your IP camera in Mountain Lion? If so, I'll drop the $10USD and use that as my monitor. Until then, Google Chrome is just fine by me!

Thx!

Although Firefox and Chrome "work", but the problem is deeper than that. Not only does Safari not work, but several 3rd party dedicated camera apps don't work either. Like all of the apps from DComplex (IP Camera Viewer), and a few others I've tried... Seems logical to assume that the problem is in an Apple framework since the same issue occurs in multiple applications. I can't use a web browser, because I'm trying to monitor multiple cameras and use advanced features provided by these dedicated camera apps.

I have the same problem with the videos emailed to me by my Axis 207W cameras. In fact, if I get the video via email and try to open it with preview it hangs. If I save the video to a file and open it with quicktime, quicktime crashes. I investigated a little more and the Axis system seems to use the MPEG-$ H.263 codec. It seems Apple stopped supporting that in the latest OS. L - A - M - E.

I have tried to install all all kinds of codecs but cannot get it to work. Apple: please fix this.

For What It's Worth:

Here is what my camera tech support told me.

"Yes, Apple broke MJPEG in Safari 6.0 on Mountain Lion. They are aware of it,

but swamped with other bug fix requests and may not get to this any time

soon.

Safari 6.0 on Lion and Snow Leopard works fine."

Firefox works for me but not Safari.

Safari works for 4 or 5 seconds and then stops.

I just don't buy it Igor. The community should know for now that your product does not work with many cameras on any computer running Mountain Lion. They should also know that you are not responsive to inquiries from those who have purchased your app and have been stuck for weeks with your program not working. They should also know that you were expressing the expectation that Apple's release of 10.8.1 would fix the problem, so they should be skeptical of your representations about how 10.8.2 will fix the problem. I recommend that anyone who does not have your app steer clear of it until either you or Apple resolve this. I further warn anyone who owns the app not to expect responses from Igor to your requests for help and guidance.
