In Security and Privacy preference under advanced there use to be Disable remote control infrared receiver checkbox, but now it isn't. Does anyone know if it has been moved or have Apple removed it for some reason.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion
Under Privacy tab, click on Advanced in the lower right.
You will need to unlock the preference before the Advanced tab turns black instead of gray.
It's still there IF your Mac has an infrared port. It does show up on my 2009 MBA but it doesn't on my 2012 MBP.
So if you have an IR port on your Mac and you don't have the option, it is a bug.
I have just checked my older iMac, which has osx 10.8 and it is showing as above. However my newer iMac , with osx 10.8 is not showing it, which must mean it hasn't installed correctly. If that is the case how do you correct it.
If you have Candleair installed on the iMac then look in it's preferance pane.
Yes I do, but it wasn't installed (new version), but it is now. Disabled the remote in Candleair, then checked preferences and it's back. Great, many thanks!

I have the same problem where the option to disable my infrared port doesn't exist anymore. I DO NOT have Candleair installed.

Thanks. Installing CandleAir fixed the problem. I then uninstalled CandleAir and the problem stayed fixed. Weird.
Sounds like this wasn't an issue for you, but I have one fo the new 2012 iMacs and it looks like those simply don't have a built-in IR receover anymore.
