I'm hoping for an urgent fix for this too. I'm running Mountain Lion on a new MacBook Pro Retina, and on first firing up Logic to do some recording today, I'm having the same static/robotic distortion on the track too.

Using OSX ML 10.8, with Logic 9.1.7, with a Focusrite Saffire 6 (USB1 version I think) with a Neumann TLM103 plugged in.

I've since found that Apogee are making a big deal about their preamps being fully Mountain Lion compatible, so am thinking it's the Saffire that's currently out of date, software/firmware/driver wise.

Logic does record ok for me if I change the input recording device to built in mic/display mic, and plays back fine (crap quality, obviously, but not distorted etc) but when changing back to using the Saffire as input, (after a couple of reboots etc of Logic and the whole Mac, it still comes out distorted.

At this stage, because this is critical to my line of work (voiceovers) I'm tempted to buy an Apogee One and giving it a whirl, and potentially selling my Saffire if there isn't a fix likely coming soon. Something like this is business critical and I can't afford to have downtime.

SO frustrating!!!!!

Will be interested to see anyone else's experiences/setups to see if there's a trend regarding Focusrite etc.

I am having the same problems after installing a Clean Install of Mountian Lion on my MacPro and MacBook Air.. using my DUET v1 and Universal Audio Apollo...

I cannot record any AUDIO track in Logic only the midi work... as soon as I try to ADD an Audio track and sellect the Input devided.. Logic froze and need to force Quit.

Yes, its very frustrate.. since Logic shoud have been uodated and tested prior Mountian Lion 10.8 release, the only thing working now, is Garage Band that I was able to record audio and midi.

Note: Also Reason 6 is not working, cannot record midi but can record audio...

Now waiting for updates.... hopefully soon!!

This may be a hardware / firmware / driver issue with the recording interfaces we use. I have a Focusrite Pro 14 which according to Focusrite says it is fine in 10.8. But i would recomend everyone check with their manufacture for more info. As for the Focusrite USB 6, Focusrite does indicate there is audio distortion. I personally am going to wait for better compatibility for Apple or Focusrite. There are some 10.8 features that sound great but i can wait. Really lots of audio / visual pros don't update usually. I know a guy that did video editing for Gladitor and he still uses G5's and 2008/09 Mac Pro's with 10.6 on them. I kinda miss 10.6. It's what made me like OSX.

Yes, the mindless upgrading that Apple encourages only forces a second upgrade cycle of secondary hardware and software, which in fact fuels computer upgrading..etc...etc. If recording is important to you, stay one or two version back. Don't let a company, whether it be Apple or anyone else.... dictate your needs.

Right now OSX is requiring more and more resources, to get the same performance you used to have with Logic 8 under Leopard or Snow Leopard you have to invest in a much faster machine and what doesn't look good is, the newer systems under Lion or ML running Logic 9.1.7 aren't as stable. Unfortunately, professional Audio and Graphics users do not hold the position of eminence they used to, while you used to be able to vote with your pocketbook, we are merely a drop in an ocean of vast consumerism, and Apple now has a strict bottom line to toe.

I have the same problem, I have a Focusrite Saffire 06, and 9,1,7 in garageband logic pro quicktime even give the button to record an audio track either microphone or instrument noise makes me a stronger distortion the audio signal but if I give this record the noise and does not sound quite right microphone or instrument (only when I want to record on the track)

what is midi sounds good record so good it is only audio vst guitar even make that noise or distortion

-record microphone and instrument in the same pod x3 pro logic, garage etc etc and no problem so good

(proof of which is the compatibility of Focusrite Saffire in my case 06 with OSX mountain lion.)

-probe microphone and instrument recording in Samplitude Pro x suite and all records of great great great sound

(again prueva which is a problem with Focusrite and update your drivers.)

finally it started to happen to me since I upgrade to osx lion mountain lion so far in 10.7 everything sounded good.

in support of Focusrite I feel the same solutions that put on their website as gatekeeper etc etc and nothing there is no solution but to wait and see what happens I expect a prompt solution.
