black ipod video easily scratched

I have had my 60GB ipod video in black for a week, and it has been kept in the ipod sock ever since. Extremely scuffed, and two 'scratch' lines in the display area, means watching video films with overhead light picks out the scratch lines, I have to alter the viewing angle to make less visible. Any others out there suffer the same poor quality?

Hi, they should really come, like cellphones, with a temporary skin, and you can buy a better one should that one peel off. It's annoying that that particular part is the whole fascia, and is not covered in any kind of warranty. I know of no product that scuffs so easily, even a vase or a mirror, or a chrome tap! Gonna go see how the store in Oxford Street will 'fob me off!!' Bring back the Apple of the 1990s! much more reliable...

I bought black so the widescreen bars would 'blend' allowing me to focus on the movie. I have a 3G in white, and wanted something different. It's astounding how such 'beautifully made' products with great aesthetic value can only be kept so, covered in a shell! Booo. I'd consider having a replacement black fascia put on, I wonder how much Apple would charge for that ??

My Ipod was scratched only minutes after opening it. How you ask? By simply inserting it and removing it from the factory included soft case. (A poor excuse for a case anyway, too tight a fit for easy insertion and removal.) I have handled this Black 30 gig ipod like an egg yet the number of small swirls and scratches only increases.

I have purchased an Invisible Shield. Thing is I shouldn't have had to. I'd like to get all of those tiny scratches and swirls out but I'm worried that any polish and scratch removers will only make things worse.

Invisible shield had some product called Applesauce for removing scratches, but at about $20 I just wasn't willing to try it.

Apple, I think you owe us all a bottle of this Applesauce business to make up for the terrible quality of plastic and metal you housed these expensive Ipods in.

I have a Gameboy Advance, it's a few years old now, never had it in a case. It's screen has only a few minor scratches from over the years. It's screen looks better than my brand new Ipod that I've only had now for a week, and it's been used harshly, while the ipod's been handled like a delicate flower.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd add to it in case someone comes back to revisit. Since getting an iPod, I've wanted to get a carry case with it. I don't like the silicon cases (too cheesy), or the hard cover kind (bulky and not elegant). I wanted to get a good looking and functional leather case. There are many really nice ones out there but they are really expensive too--US$ 50+ not including tax or shipping. I couldn't justify that so I kept looking.

Much later, I found that one of the least inexpensive and wonderful leather cases for iPod is made by a Hong Kong company called Capdase. There is only one online retailer that sells them (Vinko's treasures) and he sells worldwide. He's in HK and I live in the U.S. Anyhow, for less than $20 you can get a great looking leather case for iPod or iPod Nano etc. Search for Vinko's Treasures. You can read reviews about his store on eBay.

I would agree, buy the case at the same time or even before you buy the device.
I personally like the egrips material (www.egrips.com) for my

slippery like a jelly bean / easily dropped

type mobile devices.... phones, cameras, ipods, PSP, anything really

And they are all going to get scratched at some point, at least, if
own them, Ive learned to accept this.
