Despite the 10.8.1 update to OS X Lion Mountain, my timing issue between my iPad and my iPhone with my iMac continues. It is really blocking because I do not want to use my iCloud iCal.

Still can not sync my iDevices, Apple do something, this is the first time I regret jumping on this new version of OS X, the previous version was very good and I would have done better to wait.

When will solve this problem that I must not be the only one ....

The folder Preferences is inside the library (Step 3), just some folders down from the one you seem to have found in step 4.

Please be aware, that there is another way to solve the problem (or an additional way...) discussed in other threads:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627

Then: "I fixed it! I noticed that there were also email cache files in the calendar folder. I then deleted those as well as everything else listed above plus "re-set" the sync again through Terminal, and it finally worked." (this happended today to someone in another thread...

And: I don't know about the impact of re-starting your Mac, re-connecting your iPhone, etc. This all might help, but normally people (including me) can not remember exactly what they did. There are several similar threads, no really new ways to deal with.

I accidentally deleted my iCal events by unchecking the Calendars and Reminders box in iCloud> System Preferences. The reason I did this was because I was trying to reset my events that were mis-synced in iCloud (by a day because of the timezone of my iCloud and that of my computer).

Can I use your method listed above to restore the calendars and reset iCloud calendars? I have a fresh backup from Time Machine but I don't know how to restore calendars from it. Please get back to me. Thank you!!!

Hmmm. I have no experience with iCloud.

I guess by unchecking something, the data should not get lost on both iCloud/iPhone. But who knows. I guess the method I describe does not help you, because it has nothing to do with iCloud.

Why don't you learn about Time Machine? This would be the best way to restore!

Sorry, no big help from me... Patric

I got everything up and running again. Most of the directions on how to restore files from Time Machine to iCal don't tell you all the steps because between Lion and Mountain Lion, Apple changed where the "Calendars" folder is found. It is hidden in Moutain Lion and can only be found through the "Go" Menu. Hold down the ALT key (Option key) while looking at the Go Menu and a new Library folder (that will contain all the hidden folders) should appear. Note: if you go to the Library through clicking on Machintosh HD > Library, you won't see it.

From there it was easy, just hook up my external backup drive a.k.a. Time Machine, and while looking at the hidden library folder, just click on the Time Machine application and I could see my backup of the folder. I just went back one day, highlighted the "Calendars" folder and clicked "Restore" at the bottom right. Then I restarted iCal and it updated for a minute, and "boom" crisis averted.

iCal Sync

I found out that Mountain Lion only sync the iCal stored in iCloud and not the data in the Mac. I have taken the following steps and thus I managed to reorganize my calendars (both on my Mac and iPad).

1. Start iTunes

2. Connect iPad with my Mac and see my iPad on iTunes

3. Click into iPad - Info under iTunes

4. Go down to "Sync Calendars" and uncheck "All calendars" and check "Selected calendars"

5. Select all boxes

6. Do Sync by clicking the box on the right hand bottom (will find there are some boxes not selected on the "Sync Calendars" section)

7. Select all boxes

8. Go to iCal and iPad and will see all events are there and some are duplicated and some are triplicated

9. Now try to un-select some boxes in the "Sync Calendars" section to remove the duplicates

10. Also un-select some boxes in iCal and iPad

11. Also go to "Get Info" of individual event and change the grouping from say "Work" under iCloud to "On My Mac"

I also tried this sequence (see below) but it didnt work as NO CALENDARS were visible in iTunes! until in iTunes I deselected Sync Calendars, then reselected it, then selected All Calendars, and the other Calendars appeared on the list and i was able to select Selected Calendars....

Now its syncing future events again.

Thanks for the tips.

The following is a summary of other posts: It helped some of us. Try it out!

1. Make a backup ( a) Time Machine, b) Export > Archive iCal) Close iCal

2. In Finder hold down alt-Key while choosing "Go to..." menu

3. Select Library

4. In the folder Calendar delete the files

Calendar Sync Changes

Calendar Cache

5. In the folder Preferences delete the files

com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist

com.apple.iCal.helper.plist

com.apple.iCal.plist

com.apple.iCalExternalSync.plist

com.apple.syncserver.plist

(not sure which one is the bad guy, but it did not hurt to erase all of them)

6. Start iCal, it will update itself.

Tried all suggested steps to resolve the issue. No success.

Calendar in devices rendered useless by this "upgrade".

This is what comes from someone deciding that their work stream method (everything to iCloud in this case) works for everyone. Don't want your data on iCloud. Good luck working around that.

I've been a devoted Apple user since 1989. Used to be among the first to upgrade the OS shortly after release. Was hesitant with Mountain Lion. This is the first time I've upgraded an Apple OS and regreted it. iCloud is forced on the user right out of the box and if you don't wish to go that route, you've got some strategic work ahead of you to keep your data in your computer. In the case of Calendar, good luck with that. I've witnessed iCal go from highly functional with a totally useable presentation to beautiful to look at but not very functional.

As someone who works with both Windows and Mac all day; everyday, I'll say that MS's Outlook calendar trumps the new and improved Calendar at every turn. It just works.
