why can I not play an AVI file format with QTP 10.0?

Anyone have an idea why I cannot play an standard "AVI' file format with Quixck Time Player version 10.0?

Just says may need additinal software but I thought QTP could play AVI file format...😠

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Because the computer doesn't have a codec installed for that specific AVI. Installing Perian may add it to your system.

Some AVI files can't be played on Mac OS X.
