Q: Mountain Lion disconnect from Ethernet in sleep mode

Like everybody else here, since I installed Mountain Lion, my work iMac goes off the network (wired - I have the Wifi turned off). I can no longer connect to it from home, each morning I basically have to restart it - it seems that the network refuses to wake up. Safari can't connect to anything, Time Machine backups scheduled during the night fail, iTunes starts marking my songs with an exclamation mark (because they're on an NFS share) etc etc.

Argh! These are the kind of problems we're not supposed to have on macs - isn't that why we left WIndows for the Mac? Do something Apple!

Just to say that I too have this annoying problem.

It's specific to Mountain Lion and the symptom is that my Imac loses its Ethernet connection after resuming from sleep mode. For now, if you go to network diagnostics it renews the IP address and regains its connectivity (better than having to restart).

I've submitted a bugfix to Apple.

Just to catchup, did you all try the SMC reset followed by a safeboot, I had no problem with my connection since i did it start August

The System Management Controller reboot does not fo it alone, you need to do safe boot too.

I have exactly the same problem: I have tried most of the solutions on this forum with now result.

I have given feedback and bug report to Apple for no avail.

Keep up the good work and maybe one day we shall find a solution.

Looks as if this issue needs a lot of faith for finding a solution.

QUESTION: to you run your Mac always in safe mode after the SMC reset?

No other users on it?

I just submitted a bug report to Apple- It should be labeled software design flaw- my main gripe is why should we jump thru hoops for something so basic as internet connectivity- wether or not you are on wifi or ethernet cabled to your source- Mountian Lion DROPS the Connection whenever it pleases and causes such a headache so much so I am unable to use any of my apple products for any important transactions over the internet and this is totally unacceptable. this is not just exclusive to my MBP as I also have a MAC mini and it does the exact thing. Everything is positively up to date on all of my products including my Airport Extreme  THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH LION --only now under Mountain Lion lol had to yell a little bit, because I have done all of the fixes that I care to do, I feel it is Apples responsiblity to fix this software flaw- period.

I love your post but..... Apple is never going to see it! They do not visit the forums!

My feeling about this issue is that Apple used some youngish "greenhorns" to convert OS X into some resemblance with iPhones and iPads and the "greenhorns" have just messed up the fundamentals of OS X!

I can imagine to turn off WiFi on a mobile device to save battery when not in use(sleeping) but a desktop computer switching off everything for networking when saving HD and power: why why ooh why? What a thought!

What I am trying to say is that this is intentionally coded into the software and not a BUG...

I hope somebody can issue the code so that we, the community, can tell everybody how to get rid of it!!

I ALSO HAVE SENT A BUG REPORT AND FEEDBACK TO APPLE INC.

No comeback at all... maybe we should email the technical press with this: that'll get Apple off its high horse!

I have a mid-2011 Mac Mini with this problem, and I did try all the above. No change.

- Repair Disk Permissions

- Reset Parameter RAM

- SMC Reset

- Restart in Safe Mode

I guess the only work around is to go to Energy Saver and set Computer sleep to Never. Pay the electric bill and warm the planet.

And yet even after all of the so called "fixes"  it ain't fixed

I too, set the Energy Saver- Computer Sleep  Time --to NEVER- and it still loses WiFi eventually and has to be restarted.

So I just turn the darn thing off each time I use it- (or during use lol ) So that upon restart it works for a bit.

I hope they ( Apple ) are working on this big issue-

More importantly I hope the people at Apple get the same disconnection woes that Mountain Lion produces, that would be justice.

Maybe they can't stay online long enough to post an update lol

I spent 2800 bucks on Apple Computers -- only to have them work worse-- than my 8 year old windows XP--- which oddly enough connects and stays connected, except when it freezes up, lol.

Remember it took Microsoft 7 years of " updates" to get XP to work halfway good,

I sure hope it doesn't take Apple that long to solve Mountain Lions shortcomings.

I waited with baited breath for Mountain Lion to come out.

I stayed up all night long just to have the newest and best Operating System Ever.

That said I love it,

BUT  I  am not happy with this HUGE design flaw.

not in such a rush to get the iPhone 5- I am just saying,

Love you Apple, but their ignoring this problem is not very good.

This worked for me for 24 hours and 2 sleep/wake cycles, then back to same problem.  Agree with others that this is a huge design flaw that Apple needs to get fixed pronto.

Well, u are fare behind, I made mine on August 4, I talked to Apple yesterday and the Lady promized she will forward this tread to support and ask them to look into it.
