Sep 26, 2012 9:18 AM in response to lucas2999by alfredo87,I can confirm that this does not work with WiFi on my iMac 2011.
Exactly same as before: sleep-turn off wifi-awake- turn on wifi (takes time and Notifier for Gmail times out)
No good:
we are shooting in the dark: is there anybody out there who understands the ins and outs of network calls and sleep behaviour??
Apple is not doing anything about it.....

Sep 26, 2012 9:37 AM in response to lucas2999by hilltop415,No, Back to my Mac did not work for me. Worked through one sleep-wake cycle, then back to the same problem. It has been the same for all suggestions here...I tried all of them, to no avail. There is no problem with the Wifi...it is only the ethernet that won't re-connect.

Sep 26, 2012 5:07 PM in response to sflomenbby i3inary,Also having this issue. Nothing seems to fix it except disabling sleep mode altogether.
This is baby stuff that a mature OS should have handled...
Come on Apple spend some of that warchest on support resources you cheap *****....you have control over the hardware and the software and still suck at support.

Oct 1, 2012 2:31 PM in response to sofaloungeby Byronski,I started a different thread on
My only solution is to log out of mail and login again and it all works well. I wouldn't go with the idea of not putting my Mac to sleep.

Oct 4, 2012 7:32 PM in response to sflomenbby kevinwschafer,OK...this is weird...the problem came back. Was going great since my last post (Sept 23), then it started again. The only thing that may have changed, I updated iPhoto the other day. Why iPhoto would cause my ethernet issue is beyond me. I plan on redoing a SMC reboot and safe mode restart. Will post when I have more info.

Oct 6, 2012 12:44 AM in response to sflomenbby margate,Hi,
2 months and counting with no issues.
Recently I bought a new Macbook Pro 17" late 2011, it came with Lion and to test this issue I upgrated to ML, no issues at all, both LAN and WIFI enabled and I can wake it with Netawake on both interfaces from my iPhone, I used defaults for network configuration (DHCP), I did not do SMC reset and safe mode restart, I just ran install from ground and updated to ML.
The only thing I can think of there might be different from others, is that I have DHCP reserved IP addresses on all units in my house.
My router is PFsense 2.0.1 on soekris net6501 HW and use default DHCP settings besides DHCP reservations.
So the question is, if this is related to upgrade issues, did someone try a clean install?

Oct 6, 2012 7:25 AM in response to margateby Angel-i,I am planning a fresh install, but can you tell us:
Is your LAN interface Thunderbolt-Ethernet or USB-Ethernet. It seems the ethernet disconnect is only an issue with Thunderbolt.

Oct 6, 2012 7:36 AM in response to Angel-iby sofalounge,I dit a clean install on 6 iMacs and all are directly connected with Ethernet. Four or five got that problem. The oldest one (without i7) don't has this problem, all the other got that problem. The only workaround that really works is disabling the sleep-modus (the monitor is still in sleep-modus).

Oct 6, 2012 7:44 AM in response to sofaloungeby loïcfernandezcastrillon,Since 10.8.2 my iMac doesn't disconnect anymore :) it's always available on my network even when it's asleep for several days.

Oct 6, 2012 7:55 AM in response to loïcfernandezcastrillonby alfredo87,What did you do? Did you have the PROBLEM under 10.8.1?
It would be really helpful to explain what you did.
I believe (?) that this issue has to do with having installed 10.8 on top of 10.7.x with a subsequent restore of an old OS X file system.
Somewhere the sleep function turns off all network calls ans suspends all automatic downloads, mail checks, Skype connections, etc.
As I said before, this is a major disaster for Apple's OS X system: how can one have the computer making no difference between Sleep mode and completely OFF from the main switch???
Apple apple apple: no solution to this yet.
No reply to my bug report and developer report: forget your customers and users and the end is nigh!!!

Oct 6, 2012 7:59 AM in response to sflomenbby Angel-i,No, it doesnt have to do with installing on top of 10.7.x
This problem is plaguing my brand new MacBook Pro Retina which shipped with 10.8
The problem was not rectified by 10.8.1 nor 10.8.2
My service call to Apple still hasn't yielded any solution. It has been sent up to Enginneering who claim "We've never seen this before" - clearly from this forum, that's not true.
They got me to remove some LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons - but of course that made no difference.
The same problem occurs with all user accounts on my Mac.

Oct 6, 2012 8:04 AM in response to alfredo87by loïcfernandezcastrillon,This problem was here since Lion in my case... When 10.8.2 came out, I decided to install it clean on my iMac and MacBook Pro. Without any backups. After the install I made a reset of the PRAM and caches...
iMac is connected to Time Caspule with the latest update and my MacBook Pro is connected to my Time Capsule or AirPort Express depending where it is.
The only times my iMac was disconnect was when my router was restarting because I didn't have internet for an hour or two (they're building an house across the street).
