Q: Mountain Lion disconnect from Ethernet in sleep mode

I have a late 2009 iMac running Mountain Lion. I use a program called LogMeIn to remotely access my iPhone from other computers and my iPhone. This app worked in Lion, since it was able to work even if my iMac was in sleep mode. However, in Mountain Lion, my iMac looses connection to both my Ethernet and Wi-Fi when it is in sleep mode, renedering LogMeIn useless. In order to use it, I had to sett sleep to never in the Energy Saver prefrences.

 

So basically, all networking stops on sleep, on both Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I did not encounter this problem in Lion, but ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion it's been happening. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? Is anyone else havin

    If you have not, I would go to your "Applications" folder>System Preferences>Energy Saver> and check the box "Wake for Network Access".

    Not elegant but set "Computer sleep" in energy saver to never.

    That's what I've resorted to, unfortunately. I wish there was a way to fix it other than completely disabling my iMac to go to sleep.

    Yeah I have had this problem too, it is frustrating as this did not happen in Lion. My mac goes to sleep and all my running programs disconnect from the internet.. I have posted about this a few days earlier but have not found a solution as I do not want to leave the computer not on sleep mode.

    What Mac do you have? An iMac like me?

    Late 2009 iMac 21.5 inch 12gb ram.

     

    I also have a Retnia Macbook Pro but I haven't installed ML on it yet because of this problem.

    Yeah so we both have iMacs. I found a thread on macrumors.com that had people with the same issues, all iMacs.

    I have a late 2011 27" iMac, and am experiencing the same issues.  I have had to set the computer to never sleep.  I also just submitted a bug report to Apple.

    Same problem I'm surprised that Apple could not see this coming, with AIRPLAY also stops functioning once the computer enters sleep mode and loses all connectivity. Very strange.

    I have the same issue, I am using a 27" Thunderbolt Display and a MacBook Pro 17" late 2011 with my ethernet cable connected to the display's ethernet connector.

    I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I'm connected to the display connector rather than the internal one, but so far I couldnt see any pattern that would indicate such a dependency.

    It is really annoying when I'm using iTunes with my iTunes library on a network drive, and then the network drive disappears and iTunes keeps showing messages about not being able to save the "iTunes Library".

    I also have my TimeMachine backups on an iSCSI volume, which gives me "disk not ejected correctly" messages anytime the computer goes to sleep. This might be even more dangerous to data integrity than AFP volumes being randomly disconnected.

    I have the same issue too. I am using Macbook Pro 17", some time from July 2007.

    I think they have such issue with Snow Leopard upgrade previously. But it was fix after a while. Probably from some updates. Does not have a problem when upgrade it to Lion. But now with Mountain Lion, it happen again.

    I really does not want to set my sleep setting to 'Never'. Especially my MBP is already 5 years old.

     

    I remember that one of my family member has this problem too with Lion when she bought her iMac early this year (January). She didn't know how she fixed it. But presumably after a couple of software updates later.

     

    So I guess we will just have to wait until the next update? (I hope.) Provided Apple are well aware of this issue.
